Yeah most of the Absinthe going around is fake. There is some real stuff you can buy in Eastern Europe I thought. But I think it would be much easier to buy some fake Absinthe and throw some wormwood in it. Would that work?

it would give you the effect of absinthe, but the taste is horrible. if you think you can handle the taste, then go for it. get some vodka, grain alcohol, or absente (if you want a better taste) and put the wormwood in it to soak for a couple weeks. strain it with a coffee filter and be prepared to gag.

Why would real absinthe which contains wormwood be okay to drink and home-made not?

both are ok to drink. the homemade stuff just tastes like....ugh. i couldn't remember a good way to describe it, so i tasted some just now. i still can't describe it. it is strong and not tasty. tastes a little like licorice for just a second. then kinda like bark or something. it needs to be distilled so that it is not so harsh. if you can handle shots of gem clear/everclear, you could probably handle homemade absinthe.

Wormwood is without a doubt the most vile plant I've ever tasted, and thats saying something cause I'm a bit of a survivalist. If you thought it tasted good, it didn't have real wormwood in it.

Absinthe is my drink of choice, its the only drink that makes me forget hours or even days.... It tastes beautiful very sweet IMO , but packs a punch. The first time I tried it, my gf had just had a glass and was gurning to say the least, so me being the hard man drank my glass believing I could keep a straight face.... I was wrong Its an aqquired taste, but the effect it has is a lot cooler than plain booze
I commend anyone that is willing to make their own......

They don't sell it at the Local liquor-mart. But They will order it from over-sea's for you, But you have to pay the extra $$$$.
