I got a D.U.I. citation almost two weeks ago.
I drink 2-4 shots of absolut mandarin (I'm not sure of exactly how many shots it is, as I prefer to sip my liquor), finishing at about 11:15. At 1:45, I take a toke and decide I'm ready to drive. At 2:15, I misjudge a yellow light and it results in me just-barely running a red light. I'm a relatively new driver, and I've made this mistake sober several times. A cruiser spots me doing this and pulls me over. I admit to the drinking right off the bat because I don't like to lie to cops, and I have a feeling they're going to test me anyway. They give me the sobriety test, and several parts in I fail to stand on one foot for thirty seconds; it's cold as hell and I'm terrified to have been pulled over for the first time in my life. They cuff me, search my car. They find the half-imbibed vodka and tell me they won't charge me for the open container of liquor, but they also find a gram or two of weed, which they charge me with, and I'm told that I'll need to take a blood test. We get to the station and they take said blood test at 3:45. I spend the next nine hours in the drunk tank; it should be 4-6, but the bureaucracy is clogged by the apparently pressing need to verbally abuse a guy who is blind drunk and peeing himself in his cell. I'm sober the entire time, so I don't even manage to get any sleep on the cold floor. I get out, they give me a placeholder license and a court date, I drive home. (Funny last detail, the policemen who arrested me apparently elected to bring the vodka back to my car and leave it on the passenger seat rather than throw it away.)
This story is clogged with detail because I'd like to ask a question of those of you (I know you're there) who have had more legal trouble than I have: this is my absolute first and only brush with the law. My driving and legal record is completely clean otherwise. I'm really quite sure I was sober when they took the blood test, the results of which I still don't know. And this all happened in San Francisco. Looking at the details, am I likely to lose my license come the 14th? Or is it impossible to tell?
Thank you.
