Mother Theresa: Faith or Brain-washed
    #7407436 -

Disclaimer: I don't want to make this about her life per se, only the fact that she never felt the presence of God yet continued to believe.

Was she stubborn, brain-washed, or merely had too much of herself invested to publicly admit what she privately felt: That God may exist, but he certainly is NOT a personal god and does not contact his children.

I'll go with that option.

All this time I've loved you
And never known your face
All this time I've missed you
And searched this human race
Here is true peace
Here my heart knows calm
Safe in your soul
Bathed in your sighs

Well, I might be wrong here but my understanding of her descriptions about her God, and her relationship with him, is that these were periods in her life when she could not feel His presence. Nothing unusual or earth shattering about that revelation, just simple honesty that is uncommon in the public domain.
In other words, many people in service of the faith go through exactly the same type of feelings, often several times and periods in their lives. The difference is, most choose not to speak or write about it publicly. This information is had been out there before she died, but it really wasn't a noteworthy issue while she was alive.
Several preachers I know got out of the ministry for a while (one for 9 years) while questioning their entire relationship and belief in God.
What does it all mean?
Damned if I know, it's all a mystery to me and I like it that way. Someone else's personal mysteries are not mine to judge, and I am happy to leave those mysteries with them until we have a discussion about it at the time of their choosing.

You are a fortunate person indeed, if you can begin each day accepting the fact that during that day there will be ups and downs, good breaks and bad ones, disappointments, surprises, and unexpected turns of events.

When you have solved all the mysteries of life you long for death, for it is but another mystery of life.

My understanding was that it was not "Her entire life she NEVER felt the presence of God". It was periods, as the poster above me stated.

This is called the Dark Night of the Soul, expounded upon by San Juan de la Cruz. Very common in anyone very dedicated to their path. It is this moment where you lose everything, including the thing you are seeking, that you eventually find what you are seeking. "When the lover and the beloved become one."

every human being iv ever met has been delusional, to varying degrees. i wouldnt expect mother terresa to be any different. we are all blind because we have been born into a world to dark to see clearly.
from the source we are pulled through the center of creation, and it is raw and can be a heavy burden if we havent a center of our own. (and even then we are alone) its the reason a child crys for a mothers breast when it isnt hungry.
everyone has their own way of dealing with this truth. some smoke, some drink, some talk alot about shit that dosent matter, some go nuts, some isolate themselfs in the deep jungle and pray to jaguar spirits....ect. its a driving force that shapes our individuality.

its the source of human suffering.

I believe it was all of this. From what I heard on NPR this was not just some little period when she didn't feel the presence of God. She felt there was nothing there. She chose to believe anyway because IMO she didn't know how to think for herself outside of the cultural box.

Highly possible. I wonder, though, would someone like Mother Teresa have so much insight into others suffering, and yet not have any insight into her own life and being and mental constructs?

Righteous post, Archemetis, I do believe this is the case. We are all delusional monkeys, it's hilarious when you realize this, way too dark when you are convincing yourself otherwise.

Then again... we are way more awesome than monkeys. Look at us, communicating like the people we are. How sweet it is.
