What is attitude?
    #7334474 -

a few wiki definitions...

Quote:
Jung's definition of attitude is a "readiness of the psyche to act or react in a certain way" (Jung, [1921] 1971:par. 687).

Quote:
The MBTI write-ups limit the use of "attitude" to the extraversion-introversion (EI) and judging-perceiving (JP) indexes.

The JP index is sometimes referred to as an orientation to the outer world and sometimes JP is classified as an "attitude." In Jungian terminology the term attitude is restricted to EI. In MBTI terminology attitude can include EI and also JP. (Myers, 1985:293 note 7).

Quote:
Attitude is a hypothetical construct that represents an individual's like or dislike for an item.

In the broadest sense I think these definitions say a person either has an attitude of "I will advance" or "I will retreat". Obviously you can't, and wouldn't want to advance towards every single sensation perceived. You must be selective.

So what is a positive attitude?

Maybe when something seems unknown to us we either have an attitude of "go in and explore" or "run like hell". But that to me seems more a matter of self confidence, which implies something with more inertia than attitude.

go back to jung's and no further

each bit of attitude certainly is a set of readinesses to do something
it is being poised and attentive
it is also being postured even provocative in order to get data so that it can move to the next thing, which is

another bit of attitude.

each one looks like this
express something and wait for response,
react to the response with either
repetition or

link to the next attitude

now as for positive attitude, you could add positive stuff to all of them, but first try to make friends with all your people (inside)

it seems to me then that a bit of attitude is the same as a bit of attention?

after all if the attention isn't poised and ready to act, it goes away, doesn't it?

Attitude is spirit.

--------------------
"A warrior is a hunter. He calculates everything. That's control. Once his calculations are over, he acts. He lets go. That's abandon. A warrior is not a leaf at the mercy of the wind. No one can push him; no one can make him do things against himself or against his better judgment. A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda

Well I think that one of the most important traits of attitude is spontaneity.
Having the ability to have the most "fit" - and fastest (as in constructive, healthy, wise) reaction to a certain situation.

All this time I've loved you
And never known your face
All this time I've missed you
And searched this human race
Here is true peace
Here my heart knows calm
Safe in your soul
Bathed in your sighs

really close
attitude masks are programs last about 3 seconds in general.
meditative attention involves a very simple kind of open attitude mask that links to itself without any runaround.
just keeps the channel open using the object of focus.
normally an attitude mask is gone in 3 seconds and replaced with another.

so meditation is a progress of no progression.
also called keeping still.

once you begin you are doing it.
