In Tibet they had autonomous Gar's and groups of Ngakpas based around spiritual ideas. They are all 'family orientated' groups of lay practitioners.  It is said that when the Chinese visited some of these Gars, they found that they had nothing to 'liberate' and so left them alone. There ways of life are fully based around spiritual ideals, and they apparently function well without idea of money etc. A lot of other spiritual movements have managed to maintain peaceful existences living within a spiritually and family orientated community. I'm sure you could somehow get these guys to move to the U.S.
