Re: We are all deluded [Re: Icelander]

No I am discussing the interpretation of perception. Perception is devoid of judgment. The delusion is in the interpretation.

"A warrior is a hunter. He calculates everything. That's control. Once his calculations are over, he acts. He lets go. That's abandon. A warrior is not a leaf at the mercy of the wind. No one can push him; no one can make him do things against himself or against his better judgment. A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda

Then prove to me that all perception or interpretation is delusional. I just can't figure out how you know this.

I can't prove anything. I also think that empirical evidence cannot be gathered regarding philosophy so "proving" or "being right" is irrelevant to the subject. My observation is based on the disparity between the different views of reality and the accompanying values that people I meet express.

You're creating a false dilemma. How do you know that you don't know shit. You don't know everything most likely but some of what you know might be accurate. It's not like you know everything or you know nothing.

If I do not know that what I know is correct then I can safely say that my view is not definitive. The parts of it that I am invested in are my delusion. My dilemma is real...not false. I had several semesters of logic and as I understand a false dilemma...or false choice...is when two equally invalid choices are presented as the only alternatives. I am not doing this. I am presenting the possibility that any alternative may be correct or false.

It's *all* subjective because we never really know what another person is experiencing, nor them, us. But that doesn't mean we are deluded.

It's only delusional if false. You can be invested in things that are not false.

No, we're only delusional when we think we can't be wrong.
I think that taking everything with a grain of salt and always leaving room for more information to come is the best tactics we can apply.

If you do not know if they are true or false the delusions cannot be separated out. Mentally ill (by social definition) people cannot tell which of their beliefs are correct or incorrect, but they invest themselves totally in certain ideas based on their self importance. This is what we all do.

A very good observation according to my delusional state.

Then you're saying we're all mentally ill. Well why didn't you just come out and say that and then I could have just agreed with you.

You must be nuts.

Well, not mentally ill by social definition, but I think you are starting to get my drift.

Agreed that we are delusional when we think we can't be wrong...but there are so many subjects to be right and wrong (and all the shades of grey between) about.

It's only when a person gets fixed ideas and beliefs that trouble arises.

As Stephen Colbert hilariously said about George W. Bush, "He believes the same thing Wednesday that he believed on Monday, no matter what happened Tuesday. Events can change; this man's beliefs never will."

And look where that idiot got us.

Be flexible, ready for anything and willing to change.

What I am discussing is losing judgments about the ideas and actions of others by recognizing that we are not necessarily correct in our assumptions, and then acting on that knowledge.

That is part of it. Non-judgment is also part of it. Once you believe it...once you are invested, have faith, or drink the Koolaid, then you have formed a delusion.
