Hey. I went shrooming today, and i found a whole shitload of these mushrooms. I find them all the time when i go out there. They are always growing in the open field areas also. All out of shit too. They are very dark purple underneath...look like shrooms, just no orange...What are these? and will they make me trip if i eat enough of them? Thanks.

I hate to reply when I'm not sure of the species in question, but what the hell I'll give it my best guess. At first glance I thought just some common inactive dung dwelling Panaeolus, but after looking again I think they are possibly Copelandia cyanescens. GG will probably rip me a new one if I'm wrong, he is the resident cope expert. It does take practice to ID these mushrooms at first glance, and they don't grow in my state so my knowledge is limited, I've picked them twice before in FLA.
There appears to be bluing in those mushrooms, its hard to tell if its just regular damage bruising or bluing. I am really not sure if they are copes, usually cope blue like a mofo, but if this pic was taken soon after they were picked its possible they didn't have enough time to bruise.
Another thing is you say they are purple underneath, cope would be black/grey in color. They gills in the pic look black to me, you sure those are purple gills??

Well, The gills now have turned almost completely black/grey. They are not bluing on the top...just the stems a tad. We are boiling them down right now. You can trip off copes right?

Yes, copes are extremely active, but I told you I wasn't sure of the ID. I strongly advise against consuming these mushrooms until someone else gives a positive ID. Since the print is black and they grow on dung its highly doubtful they are poisonous, but still man, get a positive ID first, don't just start eating mushrooms you think are active.
You said the stems are bluing right? If so they are copes for sure. Just be sure about that bluing, don't let your eyes play wishful thinking on you! And again, don't drink the tea until you know for sure.
And quit making tea with shrooms! Eat them bad boys fresh for maximum potency.

In reply to:

If you're boiling them you're not going to get anything from them, heat destroys psilocybin and psilocin... My guess is there will be none left if you boiled them. When you make a tea, use hot water, but not boiling.

Panaeolus Antillarum or Panaeolus (Copelandia) Cyanescens are my guesses. I'm more inclined to cyans though, i know pan antillarum very well and their stem do not bruise to that color, anyway , can't think about any other lookalike.

I have boiled just about every batch of psilocybes I have ever grown or picked, in a covered pot for about 10 minutes, strained it thru a coffee filter and drank it down for superb trips. Boiling doesnt necessarily make it lose potency....from my experiences.

if you put them in plastic, not long. use a container that can breathe. i recomend a paper bag in the fridge. they can be kept resonably fresh for several days if properly stored.

So their edible, just not active? Yeah they totally look like a cope cyan at first glance but then you can see they dont look exact in description.

boiling them does work peoples... the heat needs to be a lot higher than boiling temp to kill them off
