Hello, Its rainy season again here in central florida, and i decided to try my hand at mushroom hunting. We hit a cowfield today, and there was lots of dark-spored mushrooms growing out of cow shit, however they do not look like any others i have seen in pics online. Could someone PLEASE help me identify these shrooms? I am hoping they are the right kind, because there was a fair number growing.
the spors on these gills are a deep brown, and they SORT of bruise blue, but it could be wistful thinking.
here is the pic:

please hurry with replies! i wanna do sum shroom munchin!

I'd say that you have found a look-a-like Copelandia cyanescens, aka blue meanies. At first I thought you had them, but Copelandia cyanescens bruise noticebly blue and have a jet black spore print. I read somewhere that they are the fourth most potent mushroom. Don't give up hope, you may have found the real deal. I can't say 100% for you as I've only found them myself once.
Keep your fingers crossed and wait untill someone with more knowledge then me IDs them before you eat them, although it's highly unlikley that they're poison.
Here's a good link for you, with photos of Copelandia cyanescens and it's look-a-likes:

Yep, Man those are all Fakes.
Most of them look like Panaeolus antillarum. Non-active.
Good to see your finding mushrooms out there though!
Keep hittin that field up the day after good rains and you may be finding cubies soon!~
What county in central florida is this at??

Hmm, are you sure they are ALL the wrong kind? Attached is another pic. I spent a min or two fondleing my shrooms. The results is the ones on the right changed a noticable color, while the one of the left had no color change whatsoever.
the stain (to me) looks a deep blue/brown/black, however I will be the fist to admit that the lighting in my apartment is not the best.
I am over in seminole county.
here is the pic:
BTW, if i accidently eat one of the other kinds, whill i end up rolling over dead? On the pages I visited it said 'non active' but I have no clue is 'non active' means 'your going to shit and cramp all night'

yup sure... those are panaeolus antillarum and you have also a p. sphinctrinus far to the right. those mushrooms grow in the same environment that houses what you are looking for... some days non-psilocybian fungi predominate and some others there are only magic ones...

Hey Magikbus,
First of all you will be just fine and wont get sick at all from eating any of those mushrooms pictured. Just dont ever do that ever again k?
And the bruiseing on those mushrooms isnt blue, even though your scanner seems to almost give them a tint of blue, theyre definately Panaeolus antillarum, a fake.
-There is one other fake in there, probably Panaeolus sphintrinicus (think i spelled that wrong again), but its the one on the far right of the second picture with the darker brownish/red stem. Its also not a active mushroom.
The Copelandia mushrooms stain positive blue that cant be missed. And yeah they also turn black eventually because theyre so potent. Just keep going out there and youll get better at this every time you go looking and picking. And if you dont have someone with you that really knows how to identify them, just, dont be one bit reluctant to just toss everything you find away. Try again, until your Positive the shrooms are blue. Then, once you learn that then you should have very little problems figureing out which is which.
Keep shroomin

Ok guys, thanks for the expert help. Hopefully with the rain we have been getting there will be more growing about next time.
Also, how fast do these things grow in the wild? Should I check back in a week? 2 weeks?

Hey guys, Some of those mushrooms in the pictures above are Copelandia and some are Pn. antillarum. GGreatOne234 should have noticed the difference.
See if you can tell. I could.
And Panaeolus antillarum has a distict black gilles with sharp white edges. and they are always black with white edges as seen inmy photo below here. I have picked similar Copes in Eudlo and in Adelaide in your country..
Here is a picture of P. antillarum.

Have a shroomy day and may all of your days be shroomy.

In that last pic, all 3 mushrooms to the right are active copelandias, the one to the left look inactive.

I'm gonna take a guess on the first picture. The first mushie is a cope, the fourth one is a cope and the sixth one is a cope.
Remember, this is only a guess.
I definitely see the bluing in the other pic, the pic with the circles and notes added.I'm with Lizard King's guess on that one.

In the first pic, I see bluing in all mushrooms except the third and sixth mushroom from the left, but even those still looks like a cope that hadn'y bruised yet.
Thats an odd find. Maybe they are copelandia westii or something?? Every Cope cyan I've ever picked has stained dark blue and eventually to a black. They do take longer than you'd think to bruise, but they will bruise blue as hell if they are cyans. Maybe they just have a low in psilocin content??

Naw, you dont want to eat any of those.
There is no mixing and matching here.
Its either Bluing or it isnt, regardless of species.
Keep going out there and picking and learning and enjoy doing it. What you should really have your mind set towards is first finding Psilocybe cubensis, the golden teacher.
Never eat anything that isnt positively a shroom.
Heres a new picture gallery of copelandias were building;
http://gallery.copelandia.org/
Those are all positive.
Especially look at the three harvest pictures with the red backround, every cope you see there is blue.
I dont mess around when I bring my harvests home. It takes hours to go through pounds of copelandias checking each one for a positive sign of blue. Theres always a few questionable copes at the end that i have to toss because they just dont look positive.
Floridas shroom season seems only days away now.
Thats my advice to you,
Keep shroomin,
GG

Bhahahaha! Why do you keep eating them without IDs? You're pretty game - or pretty keen (or pretty stupid <wink>).
My guess is 1st and 4th in 1st picture,
and 3rd one in the 2nd picture

In reply to:

Hehehe. That'll teach 'em! If they where really 'mocking you', I don't think you need any extra psychoactives!
I think that's what happens to on a good dose actually - the plants and flowers laugh at me in a mocking way, I just laugh back at them.
