Well a surefire way of identifying Copelandia cyanescens (and its similar psychoactive variations) is to find blue staining on each and every mushroom.
-Every Copelandia bruises blue. (even the small baby ones)
--Their stems stain blue, the top of their caps also stain blue, and once Copelandia's are dried (unless extreme care has been taken during the picking/drying process) they dry to be little black shriveled up shrooms.
Also,
-Every Copelandia renders a Jet Black colored spore print.
+Plus, i've picked a good share of the Copelandia mushrooms, even experimented with a good amount of bioassays on them :)..it seems that those little baby copes are sometimes just as potent (if not more potent) than the fully matured large specimens. The baby Copelandia specimens are also easier to dry than the larger ones, as the genre "Copelandia" tend to be a rather troublesome mushroom to preserve, at times.
Keep shroomin,
GG

thanks for the reply!
ok...i'm almost sure these are copes. they were found in northwest florida...crestview, florida to be exact.
growing off of cow sh*t. however, the caps on these were not crackled (possibly due to the fact that they're premature)...
is the blue staining that you refer to on these...not quite the same color as found on a cube?
these are staining a blackish blue-ish purple-ish color. not the auqa color that a cube turns... maybe i should wait and see if they dry completely black?? if only i had a scanner.

The Panhandle eh? Nice.
Uhh-heres the links;
http://hometown.aol.com/ggreatone%20234/index.html
That one has everything except information and pictures of Panaeolus antillarum (a non-active look-a-like mushroom to the Copelandia).
Find more Copelandia info and pics at this site;
http://mjshroomer.yage.net/species.html
-Take time to read up on Panaeolus antillarum at this site also.
Good luck,
GG

In the future please print and distibute as many as possible. This would be greatly appreciated by me and probably everyone else here, that have no immediate access to wild Pan. cyans. Thankyou

To anonymus and others. there are a few hundred images of cope species at these web pages:
Copelandia bispora: http://mushroomjohn.com/copelandiabispora1.htm
Copelandia cambodgeniensis: http://mushroomjohn.com/copelandiacambodgeniensis1.htm
Copelandia cyanescens: http://mushroomjohn.com/copelandiacyanescens1.htm
and
Copelandia tropicalis: http://mushroomjohn.com/copelandiatropicalis1.htm
So there are pages on Copelandia. This is also posted inthe Shroomery's Ultimate Identification Guide posted here and is listed in the section titled 'Species.'
mj and have a shroomy day
