Lophophora 'harvest'!!!

High desert gardeners:

Here are some pictures of my lastest Lophophora williamsii v. caespitosae 'harvest'!
Actually I am taking the offshots for rooting and perhaps also graft some.
I´ve got 23 pups from 5 to 2 centimeters wide, 290g wet! :smile:
Their fathers were grafted a few years ago and I´m also cutting them in order to refresh growth and try to restore some poor shrunken rootstocks.

haha i wouldnt eat them personally. i realise it is not tested but it seems to be spread around a lot that grafted lophs are not active. r are they when grafted to a mesc containing rootstock?

i agree that i have hurd that you have to root them and grow them for about a year to get them about as active as they would be not grafted but they are still active when grafted just not as much.

grafted specimens apparently dont have a decent alkaloid content, as im sure felix has heard lol...

but still id like to say... EAT THEM!

LOL you guys!

Of course I tasted them in order to check for potency, and the legend is true - VERY LITTLE bitter taste, much less than I expected from a Loph... It tasted better than a T. scopulicola (which tastes better than pachanoi), but as for mescaline, I´d say they´re really on the low side, actually unvaluable for eating.

I remember a report coming out that suggested that alkaloid production isn't less for grafted species.

But, you might have 20x more mass than if it were just that little seedling, and I think it's quite clear that the alkaloid production doesn't simply go up with the mass. (Or else you'd have a button the strength of a grandfather peyote in 2 years via grafting). So, for its mass it is lacking, but for its age? Who knows.

Edit: Ah, and the other question! Mescaline production might be quite low in a young grafted loph. But what about all the dozens of other phenethylamines in there? Anyone I know who has tried a full dose of lophophora will explain how very different it is from simply a pachanoi experience, etc. And those who have tried a few buttons with a full dose of some trichocereus also report that some of the "extra peyote something" is very much present. Perhaps a couple large, though young, buttons in combination with around 500mg worth of mescaline, from whatever source (from someone with much experience at such a dose) would be a valuable experiment.

When I was in Mexico, a sham I had met squeezed one of the mature buttons in his hand and explained that the cactus's firmness was relative to its concentration in alkaloids. If I squeezed one of my grafted lophs in my nad it would burst. I have tried a full dose of lophophora, with wild buttons that were well over 50 years old growing on clusters that could have been hundreds of years in the making. Grafting lophs is fun and looks pretty, but I dont think it will net a whole lot of mescaline, unless you are doing it on a huge scale, then rooting the buttons for several years and stressing them to promote harder growth.

Maybe combine Torch for the mescaline and the Lopos for the 'other' chems.

Thats exactly what I´m doing! I´m not any anxious to extermine plants who took several years to reach this size...

I also hate the bloated look of the grafted buttons.
