    #2071960 - 11/05/03 01:49 AM (16 years, 11 months ago)

This guy I know has an uncle who has a friend who had a kid about 20 years ago the kind asked his dad who asked his uncle who asked me if I could find any information for him on the best techniques for growing this particularly rare cactus. If anyone has any input . . . links, instructions, images, ect. please post it. The boy is very interested and wants to learn all he can.

I hate to be one of those guys that says RTFM, but it's true. There is tons of info out there. Just buy some seeds from overseas if your in the U.S. and germinate them like normal cacti. Research everything you can. Read, and then read some more. Amazon.com, Adam Gotlieb, faqs, anything.

And if you don't want to wait the 8 years you could just graft the young peyote seedling to a san pedro or some other grafting cacti. I'm not sure how long it takes to mature once grafted, but I know it's alot less than 8 years.

Do a search on grafting and on Pereskiopsis, you wanna see crazy ass fast growth, that shit is crucial.

YES

from what I remember every 3 months you would have a fat button from Pereskiopsis, and with pedro you wait a year

a year is still fast for peyote , but holly shit 3 months!!!

ok, couple quick loph questions, figured id add em onto a preexisting thread.
1. does the greatly accelerated growth rate affect the potency much/at all? on erowid it says that peyote's dry weight can be up to 6% mescaline but typically its more around 1%. if potency is affected by accelerated growth, does anyone have any idea as to what the mescaline content of the dried buttons is?
2. is there any way to increase alkaloid production in the cactus?
3. are there any other rootstocks with comparable speed to pereskiopsis?

>>3. are there any other rootstocks with comparable speed to pereskiopsis?

Myrtillo is pretty fast, at first i thought myrtillo and perekiopsis would be about the same and at firs they were, but perekiopsis has pulled int the front of the race. Myrtillo is still quick, but might cause some splitting, it can make seeds swell up pretty fast.

apparently you can give shots to the plants to help with alkaloid content.  Peyote: And Other Psychoactive Cacti   by Adam Gottlieb talks about it.

also alkaloid content seems to be higher in plants after a drought, so in theory after wintering your plants they should be more "potent".

get that book.  its small but it makes for good reading...and it goes thru extractions and such also

ADam Gottlieb's books were written from old journal text which has , 0ver the years been rewritten and changed drastically. His Psilocybin Production book is one of the worst books on the markets with many mistakes and errors o about mushrooms in t his books. Some of his herb books are also wroght with much misinformation which he was personally informed of many years ago by me, Stamets, Bob Harris, Steven Pollock, Jule Stevens and Rich Gee and Gary Meser , yet Gottlieb never corrected any of the errors in his book. I could not recommend them to anyone.

His peyote book and San pedro is halfway decent but also contains a few cactus' in it which are not mescaline cactus.

Have a shroomy day.

Let nature grow your plants. adding compounds or chemicals into them to try to increase their potency or to make them grow faster defeats their purpose in your life.

Its kinda like the vegetatrian groups around the world who complain about mass produced vegetables being contaminated with insecticides growth inhibitors, etc,. yet theese same vegetarian farmers often water their small garden crops witht he city water hoses attached to pipes in their homes. Their are many chemicals in the water already so that defeats their viewwpoint of clean vegetables.

I read at some website that grafted peyotes on San Pedro cactus can be harvested in about 2-3 years.

Here are some pics I found.
