grafting rootstock questions and what are your favorites?
    #1691948 - 07/07/03 03:29 AM (13 years, 5 months ago)

hi everybody!

i was thinking of playing dr frankenstein and graft some cacti. i've already done a few grafts before but i was wondering which ones (besides myrtillos and pedros) are your favourite rootstocks.

i was wondering also how good would be the thicker trichocereus like candicans, atacamaensis, pascana, terschekii as a rootstock for larger (older) cacti or plain young ones?

aren't t. grandiflorus good grafting stocks? sometimes there are lots availiable and their clumping nature would be very welcome... (yeah, i know they're too spiny and there should be attachment problems... any ideas of how to overcome? i know spachianus is used for that and isn't much less spiny).

i've already had lots of success using pilosocereus maxonii as rootstock, could i use a around 1 inch thick by 3 inches tall specimens to graft scions? or is the stock too little for use?

now, my freakiest delirium... could i use, lets say a large cereus peruvianus monstrose as a rootstock? they send so many arms all around when they're a little big...

here is a good site for selected grafting stocks.

as for the rest of your questions, i don't really know,. i'd say "i geuss" to all fo those questions, or "probably." I wonder if anyone konws for sure. Perhaps Una, knowing all that about grafting specifically would require a lot of experience grafting.

hi neuro!
i know i am being a little too specific in my questions and that the shroomery is about mushrooms in the first place.
but actually some guesses would be welcome!
thanks for the input!
