Can too much light hurt?
    #665430 -

If the temps remain ideal say 70-75 degress for the fruiting stage, could too much light actually hurt the mycelium and cause it not to grow?

I would say that the only way light would hurt would be if it modifies the temperature. If the temps get too high and dry out the casings. Keep in mind that they grow with no light. I seriously provide my casings with about 15-30 minutes of light a day. This is enough to make them pin and to control growth direction. I watch them grow towards a light which was presented to them for only 15 minutes. I use a plant light with a wide light spectrum.

I think they are just worried about pin setting, and growth in the correct direction. I think most of this time is useless. Like I said, I give it 30 mins a day of high intensity cactus lights, and find that I have no problems. If they can grow in complete darkness, I see no significant value to light exposure other then controlling and manipulating growth.

too much light cant hurt. in nature these little guys get alot more than the 1\2 hour to the three hours we give them.mushrooms dont need light to live they need it to know where to grow so a hour is fine but if you forget no problem. i find a higher pinset when i turn my light on every couple hours?but thats my experience could have just been a fluke
