so the mycellium needs a small source of light like if i just had them sitting in my room in a clear plastic container out of DIRECT sunlight and that would be sufficient?

Reason:
There's tons of recent threads on lighting with accurate info. Please check out some of them rather than bumping a six year old dead thread full of some very bad information that has since been refuted.

Light is irrelevant for colonizing mycelium, so there is no harm in exposing colonizing jars to normal ambient room lighting.
