Auto-Summary
This forum post explores the idea that positive change and progress often stem from individuals feeling a higher positive value about themselves compared to the status quo. The author uses historical examples like the fight for women's rights and an analogy involving slavery and women's self-worth to illustrate this point. They argue that without a sense of personal value, there would be no motivation to seek change. The post also highlights the potential pitfalls of the "waking dream" philosophy, suggesting that it can lead to apathy and disengagement if individuals fail to recognize negative emotions as indicators of unmet needs. The author emphasizes the importance of recharging positive energy through self-care and maintaining a belief in one's worth to foster personal growth and positive change in the world. They conclude by suggesting that the pursuit of enlightenment is an ongoing process of expanding awareness and understanding, rather than a destination.

Good questions and you seem to have the gist of it, just switch your understanding of where the motivating power to take and create positive change really comes from and you've nailed it. The following should help even more to demonstrate that iot is always positive energy, especially when it gets into the beleifs section later on.

What about slavery or women's rights?  If people didn't feel BAD about the situation back in the day they would not have been motivated to bring about the positive change that they did.

The change came about because women felt and gave themselves a higher positive value to the world then the world had given them. They moved to correct that imbalance back towards the positive. Had they never given themselves or felt a positive value existing, beyond what the world gave them, they never would've had anything to feel in a short changed deficit and bad about. They took a turn towards a positive move because they felt that is where they should be because they felt more positive value about themselves in the first place.

If everyone had lived in one of these "waking dreams" where everything was candy and clouds it never would have occurred to them that using black people as animal labor was wrong.

If they would;ve held the value of themselves at the level of animal labor, it would;nt have felt Wong to them. ONLY because they felt that they had a higher value then that of animal labor, was it able to feel like an experience running in the negative values with a need to be re-corrected and justified. They took a turn towards a positive value because they held an increased sense of greater positive value about themselves. take a woman who thinks she deserves to be abused. She thinks her abuser is in the right to abuse here and will never make a move towards positive change away from the abuse, until, she starts upping her sense of positive self value, which will give her the increase of energy, then sight ability to find ways move out of the situation.

Or maybe it would have and they would have re framed the situation in their minds to a positive one.

Yes!

It seems to me that there are negative emotions buried in the "waking dream" philosophy.  If there weren't you would have no motivation to be rid of the negative emotions.

Yes, there are many negative programs buried in the subconscious. I talked about that. Even when you get it pretty well cleared out, some seem to sneak again when we let ourselves run to low on positive energy. Recharging often through things we enjoy doing and getting enough rest and sleep and rebuilding up stock piles when feeling energized is so key.

Obviously you have some negative feelings about your negative feelings.  This dislike or frustration or discomfort with the 50/50 state or even the 90/10 state indicates this to me.  If you were absolutely positive it would never occur to you to change anything; you'd just keep on truckin'.

I think you know how this answer will go. I start seeing things that way only when I start upping my sense of positive value, worth and deservance. My external life will then have a negative void appear, until I fill it with the increase of positive value I gave to myself.

In this , a positive value increase of energy  will create a negative void. (which is different then a positive turning into a negative. Two separate value spaces have been added to my reality now. If I take the positive value increase energy and fill that negative void with it, I just made an improvement, or higher quality up grade in my life.

The Universe expands and keeps re balancing through this process.

Often, we get a greater sense of self value with a newfound burst of energy and then the negative void appears. Its nothing more then the space where that energy just came from, being revealed to us. It has no negative power value what soever. BUT, people see it and think something negative just came into their life. Instead of filling the space from within the self to make the quality improvement in this reality, they may instead, not understanding how this works, fear it, curse it, struggle with it and in the process spend all of that energy in waste because they made turns towards the negative which will suck it all back up. They find themselves back at square one or worse off. This is how someone with a general good self esteem can start taking a down hill turn for the worse.

They get ideas that they are worth more, and then, when the opportunity arises to realize it here, they fear it instead, waste away the power to realize it as being so, and stop believing that they must truly be worth more and deserve more of the positive in life. Those negative thoughts start robbing energy and the down ward spiral begins until they stop FEARING, putting the positive energy into that negative space.

People do this, I've done it when I forget.

In a philosophical sense I can see the advantage to re framing, positivity, etc. but in the real world I believe that negative emotions can be indicators (red flags, if you will) that things are not as they should be.  How they should be is up to all of us.

yes and this all fits in with what I am saying. When we feel things are not as they  should be, it is a sign that a potential positive value is not being realized by us. That means, the negative you are now seeing, came into view only because you got an increase of the energy that created that negative void. It is then your decision, to take that positive energy and fill it to realize a greater positive value in reality or to squander it away back into the void it came from, cursing and fearing the negative

I feel that the "waking dream" philosophy is an apathetic one.

It  most certainly can turn into one if you don;t watch for some things.

Getting too overly content can cause apathy. If you never move to up want to up the anti in life, you are doing nothing to increase energy supplies. if you are not doing that, as you said, you will have no way to see what negative voids exist out there to become fulfilled with the positive energy that changes realities to the better. You won't see the negative in life anymore is right. Some are fine with that.

Because I understand this,  when I get too content with my life or the world as it is I fire up the engines and start saying to myself, I and the world deserve even BETTER then this which is already so good and then, I start seeing voids to fill with the increase of positive energy I just summed up from within.

It gets fun, as long as you pace yourself.

It focuses all of your energy on yourself and disregards the rest of the world.

It can if you let it. You can choose to say, "I am going to care about something or someone else right." That starts to raise energy which then reveals a negative void in reality waiting to be potentially fulfilled by you with that energy.

I also agree that there are some problems that may be beyond our (my or your) power to fix.  Or perhaps that attitude is the only thing in the way?

Yup. To the extent you raise, positive energy, is the extent you will be able to fill a negative void. We can fix anything wrong that presents itself to us when we decide to care more about something because we increased our or its value to us. The [problem in the way is when we start getting negative about the negative problem itself. We ended up spending some of that energy in fear and cursing or struggling with it and then, not have enough to fully fix"fill" it to a complete realization of positive change with.

Some times we help to raise the energy of awareness and even care in others through becoming an inspiration. Then, you have many more to make positive improvements in the world with.

Don't squelch on pie in the sky being. That will just suck away at current energy supplies. It is good and positive to be there. Even those higher positive states can just keep being improved upon. It's not so much that the improve is going even higher up into the clouds. Improvements can take place in the form of adding a richness in depth, to the appreciation of the current state and place. Things are multidimensional and can expand in many directions.

I accidentally deleted you last question about reconciling this with a philosophical pursuit of enlightenment.

I've addressed posters who seek to achieve the ideal of apathetic contentment just because, I see so much energy in potential not being used by someone who could be using it. I see it has a waste of potential myself. I've slipped into that place myself before many a time too. Probably because I was just tired and needed a rest and or wanted to stop to smell the roses and take in the beautiful scenery and thats okay, for a time, and then, the time for change comes again too.

For me, its a stirring inside I start feeling to care more to give more and in that, I start generating more energy and insight to work with and I am off again making dreams and visions come true. I think its the calling of potential laying in waiting itself that I feel and hear inside of me. Maybe some never hear that voice calling them or feel its pull.

I'm not one of the people who believes that there is an end to the state of enlightenment. I believe that we just keep becoming greater enlightened about things as we keep expanding awareness through our caring to know and understand more. Becoming enlightened is an ongoing process to me with no end.

I want to add that when we feel as if something negative just happened to us, it is the result of letting our positive energy level because we made the wrong turn of entertaining a negative as having a value.  A positive color print will follow to make that value become a reality if we feed it our energy of belief in it.

This is very important to understand if you are going to start working with spirals of energy. When we choose to give a belief value, we inbed positive energy into it relative to the value we place on it. IF, that belief is towards a negative idea, ideal, or vision of what is or may come to be, the positive energy of the value you gave it can work to make it truly become a reality.

This only serves to explain why negative energy seems to exist as having a negative power all of its own. If a negative belief is given GREAT VALUE to the beholder of it, they gave the negative an enormous positive charge of energy to take destructive action with.

Like when a man believes his wife is cheating on him, maybe she really is, if he chooses to believe that is the worst thing that could have ever happened to him, and gives the value of the worst great value, he will have the power to create that reality in experience for himself. If he takes it further in belief and gives Great Value to cheaters needing to be severely punished, he again has summoned enough positive energy in that negative belief to maybe go kill them with or set off on a self destructive rampage.

On the flip side, say the man becomes aware that his wife is loving another. He never gave the idea of cheating much positive value because he believes, no one owns other people.  Maybe he even has put some positive value energy into a belief about open marriages being a good and healthy thing. He will experience the same Physical reality, in a positive manor, where as the other guy, valuing different beliefs, will experiences a negative reality even though the actions of the wife are identical in each scenario. See how two completely different experiential realities can manifest for each man, just because of where they placed a value on a belief.

All value given will contain positive energy, even if it goes into a negative belief, That is where we get this idea that such a thing as negative energy truly exists. It's just positive value energy placed into a negative belief/idea/vision. In this sense, negative just means a belief, idea or vision where something we once had, became lost. That is what makes a belief, idea vision a negative one. It can only be relative to what you believe you already have.

That is also why what is a negative blow to one guy, isn;t to another. The first believed he had something of value to be lost where as the first guy didn't.

Thats another area to watch out for when working with the power of positive belief relative to the self. Watch out for ownership beliefs. They can cause a lot of suffering. I have chosen, to do my best to see myself as a temporary guardian or care taker of things, never an owner in the traditional sense. We set ourselves up for experiencing loss when we do that.

I never said anything about avoiding them once you are faced with them and they are very present in your experience. Of course they need to be dealt with. They need to be dealt a serious amount of positive energy to be transformed if you are going to be resilient and bounce back into a positive place.

However if you know entertaining negative thoughts and ideas, and placing the value of belief on them will lead to a negative experience and so choose to avoid doing that, thats different and avoiding the ways in which we enter negative emotional states of being in the first place I think is a wise move.

But once in them, yes, they need to be dealt with and turned around if we are to be resilient and bounce back tot he positive. Yes I agree with that. Avoiding them usually takes us further into the negative because we choose to fear them and that fear sucks up more energy leading us further into a deficit.

Absolutely avoiding negative emotions because we fear them or their pain, is a foolish thing to do. Thats when its time to start summoning up the positive values in the situation or life in general to recoup losses and get back into living in positive gains.

edit- had typed it fast and didn't run a spell check. came back to do it later.

It seems to me that a lot of the meditation/mind control techniques discussed here focus on the ability of the human mind to dissolve negative emotions.

Dissolve negative emotions? Its probably more along the lines of experiencing the negative emotional state, exploring the root of the experience, and then acceptance and transcendence. :mushroom2:

Is the eradication of one half of human feeling really a desirable goal?  I used to think that it was.  When I think of the way my life would be without jealousy, anger, fear, and hurt, it seems like paradise.

It isn't about eradication, though. It is about fully experiencing emotion as it arises and determining the cause of it. It is about not dwelling on negative emotion, but becoming aware of it when one is experiencing it, and addressing the cause and transcending it so that it doesn't have power over your consciousness in such a way anymore.

Buddhists may say that achieving peace with myself is the greatest act that I can accomplish to change the world, but positive change does not come from inaction!  It doesn't come from ego-death or self-reflection... it comes from people who FEEL BAD about the way things are, bad enough that they are motivated to do what they can to change them.

How, exactly, does a fufilled, peaceful state of being equate into inaction? If one has accepted the totality of reality as it presently exists, and does not experience negative emotions due to the manner in which reality has unfolded, then how does that necessitate that one cannot or will not act in this moment?

Regardless of one's mental state, we are in a state of constant action, and we choose how we act, on one level or another. Each moment is an expression of the totality of our being. When one's direct perception of reality is not obstructed by the experience of negative emotions which naturally diminish our level of awareness, we understand and know reality for what it is to a greater degree, which means we are in a position to more effectively produce desired change within reality.
