How to let go of the past?
    #6430287 -

For the past couple of years I've been going through tough times with myself. A lot of it has to do with my past, I regret doing so much shit, how much more I could of enjoyed life during those times, how much of an asshole I realised I was. My minds giving me a fight though, I regret so much but my mind doesn't want to seem to want to move on so I feel "stuck". I don't know. I just want to realise that life goes on and I need to stop constantly worrying and regreting about everyday life.

I want to get rid of my friends I have. They aren't good people. But they're the only friends I have. I want to move on with life, but then I feel like I'm stuck with my past. arrgg!

I think because of this I've developed strong social anxiety over the past 2 or so years. I just want to get rid off all this bullshit in my life and go back to how it used to be.

I'm thinking of a high dose mushroom trip! Maybe mushrooms can cleanse me and show me the light, they have before.

I have never tried heroin but I was once in a situation where all my friends were junkies. Three of my friends died in a short period, two overdoses and one suicide. The suicide was an especially close friend. I tried to help my friends by paying start-up costs at the methadone clinic and stuff like that. Truthfully, even though they were junkies they did maintain a degree of honor, but none-the-less, I finally got sick of that scene. Unfortunately, we parted ways on fairly bad terms which were partially my fault. What it boils down to though, is I kicked all my friends in that town to the curb. I swear, my phone didn't ring once and I didn't get laid for a year, but eventually, I started making new friends and the following two years after that were extremely happy. Even that lonely year wasn't that bad considering I saw a lot of good live shows, read some good books and continued to learn about new music; that's when I started to get into jazz and traditional folk music pretty seriously. All-in-all, my point is, it was a rewarding switch that paid off huge in the long run.

2nded

life sucks it seems without any buddies

but it can be a period of growth

ive gone through something similar, so yeah if its all getting you down, cut them to the kerb. start your life afresh, relocate even for a clean break

grow on your own, interests and that will all have time to bloom

eventually you'll feel strong enough and ready to branch out, make a buddy or two, meet a girl or two

but yeah man id consult the mushroom, hopefully you'll experience the clarity of thought and thus strength of conviction you might need

I would not recommend tripping until you are in a better frame of mind. Shrooms will not magically bring about what you seek. It could even be damaging. I am not saying it has to be but just that shrooms should not be the first thing you reach for in this situation.

Do you have a hobby (taking drug doesn't count lol) where you can hook up with others who share that hobby? You say you have social anxiety but if you're doing something you love with other people who share your love you will automatically open up more.

Make an effort to seek out the kind of people you want to be around. Then you will naturally find yourself spending less time with your old crowd.

Hrmm..

Leave your "friends", a good step towards appreciating yourself more is to end association with assholes.

Choose boredom and loneliness for awhile if you have to, rather than be dragged down by people who do nothing for you. When you are alone and bored, take a good look at yourself in the mirror. What do you see?

Make effort.
Do something that gives you a feeling of accomplishment. For me, it was to hit the gym and get strong and it's done wonders on my body and spirit.

Making good choices for yourself and sticking by them will build your confidence and ease the grip of the past. When that happens you pull yourself free and fly.

If it were me, I would NOT be tripping at a time like you described. But I am not you.

Think about it like this. Let go (leave behind) all you knew or felt. Only the truth, only the important things will be left. Be right here in this very moment, in your body in your mind. Focus on what you are doing right now and forget everything you knew before. Listen to your instincts and your body and ofcourse your heart.
Maybe if you LSD and think about these principles of letting go, it will re-enforce them if youre that type of person who can do that. Check into timothy leary's philosophies on letting go. I think its called turn on, tune in, drop out or something like that. hes got some good videos of him talking.

I don't think forays into drug-culture will get you anywheres but thats just my opinion.

If you want to change, do it strongly and soberly. Feel happy to be alive when you awake in the morning.

yes, "getting rid of your friends" (not killing them though ) seems like a good start. I promise you, NO ONE is better than shitty one's. I can't change my mind about that. And "friends" that makes you feel that bad IS REALLY bad. And maybe a shroom trip isnt the cleverest idea in your condition  :uptosomething:

Timothy Leary was retarded, he misguided many people. Buddhism is not about having an experience, drugs are not the way to liberation. Timothy Leary had a strong ego, yet he seemed to think he had experienced enlightenment. I doubt that he did.

Though drugs may sometimes provide you with insights into your own inner workings, they will not fix your problems, in fact they will only create more as you become attached to them and develop a cozy feeling with them. Fuck using drugs to make yourself happy. There is a pure awareness which exists in side of all of us, without opinion or association, like seeing the world through the eyes of a newborn, where we can find peace.

Observe how your attachment to the past makes you feel, does it bring suffering? You must sever all attachments, realize that things are constantly changing, that the universe is in constant flux. Everything is always changing. Remember you are part of this ever changing universe, and it is natural for you to change. Its natural to grow, and to move on. You must not be attached to anything, because everything is impermanent, and being attached to the impermanent will create a feeling of loss, thereby bringing about a state of suffering.
Remember, there is NOTHING AT ALL WORTH CLINGING TO!

I hope you can find peace, and detachment from your self image. Remember, you are not who you remember yourself being, you are only who you are RIGHT NOW. Every moment is a moment to be reborn. Let go of the old self, be reborn NOW.

Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream.

I, too, vote for drug free, mainly for these two reason: 1) Drugs make your life more complicated 2) You'll probably have to continue your interactions with your old friends just to get drugs.
