2shroomery forum * 1
    #6110507 -

I've got a proposal for a new forum :smile2:

Just what would that do in one particular forum?

There will be no more newbies, no more veterans, no more underdogs or popular members. Everybody who enters that forum sheds all identity, all that there is is the thread topic, and completely anonymous responses to it. In this forum nobody has friends and nobody has enemies. Grandstanding could happen, but there is no social status or pattern in discerning who's who. Instead of posting as people in a bar like on the Shroomery, people on 2channel (or in 2shroomery) are posting like thoughts in one collective mind. This is something radically different than a western forum, but it has ten million people doing it every day on 2channel.

How to practically do this?

I don't know jack about coding, but the only required alterations would be addition of one forum which has identifying features (usernames etc) behind some sort of filter. This would create default anonymity, but if some oddball starts posting child porn, we actually CAN find out who did that. But by this filter all members and staff alike are fully anonymous.

Within a season 2shroomery would acquire its own vibe, which is bound to be unique, due to the radically different forum concept.
Communication will be like thoughts in a mind rather than a regular conversation, a neural net of shroomerites :ooo:

How to manage content?

The classical solution would be to allow all existing mods to alter content in the usual way, according to fixed rules.
An unconventional solution would be to put 2shroomery behind a hefty disclaimer, and beyond that point allow all members to edit any post in that forum, and hoping for the best, kindof wiki-style but fully decentralized. More practical might be a combination of both. If any post can be anyone, trolling etc get old really fast because one does not gain notoriety, nor sees the consequences of their actions. Perhaps we could disable uploading any pics, which will leave nothing but words, and freedom of speech is protected under the umpht amemdment, so that child pron issues simply cannot occur, unless as ASCII art

A forum in a state of continuous egoloss, where there is nothing but thought moving freely :sun:
I really dig the concept :yesnod:

I think it is a very interesting experiment (it might be tomorrow's "big thing", today), I think it will be popular, I think it will add to the quality of the site and I don't think its much more challenging than other coding miracles and clever features I've seen enabled here. I also believe it will be one of the most low-maintenence forums we have, once in place, because most ego games are wiped out by the complete anonymity.

Your thoughts please, if the idea is viable there are a lot of new horizons yet unexplored.

I see it as a third option social forum, like Pub and OTD.

We could require that threads remain ontopic though, that seems reasonable.
What would it take for you to like the idea?

Total offtopicness is OTD's experiment, this is another concept.

One of the uses I see for it is that I think there are many users who'd like to experiment with ideas and concepts, without them being tied to their Shroomery identity.

I do think it should be invisible to non-members tho, because of the unusual degree of freedom offered
Only if you join the Shroomery, you can access 2shroomery.

whats the point of it being anonymous?

Re: 2shroomery forum [Re: CptnGarden]

In anonymity you get an entirely different vibe than any other forum. Its something you can't get with any other means of communication, because there is no individuality consistency.

Basically its halfway between entering a forum or a Borg cube

seriously, it has potential to become something with its own charm. With 2channel, ten million visitors do it every day. Its not like Japan is hooked up to the Backwater Web  its something preferred by many.

I think it can be unique in a good way we have yet to discover.
All individuality bias is suspended, discussion is solely interpreted for its content, not contaminated by bias about its poster.

In the words of 2channel's creator:

Quote:
Q: Why did you decide to use perfect anonymity, not even requiring a user name?
.
A: Because delivering news without taking any risk is very important to us. There is a lot of information disclosure or secret news gathered on Channel 2. Few people would post that kind of information by taking a risk. Moreover, people can only truly discuss something when they don't know each other.

If there is a user ID attached to a user, a discussion tends to become a criticizing game. On the other hand, under the anonymous system, even though your opinion/information is criticized, you don't know with whom to be upset. Also with a user ID, those who participate in the site for a long time tend to have authority, and it becomes difficult for a user to disagree with them. Under a perfectly anonymous system, you can say, "it's boring," if it is actually boring. All information is treated equally; only an accurate argument will work.

Everyone of us longterm members have people who agree with us by default and disagree with us by default, because of our reputation. Take away reputation, and all thats left is what you're saying right then and there. You cultivate an open mind.

I wouldn't want it to become a sitewide policy, no! I'm attached and familiar with a lot of you, won't want to lose that

But a separate forum with this unique approach adds a new form of Shroomery communication: Posting, Wiki, IRC.. and 2shroomery :smile2:

True, it would be quite an experiment! But we're all computer people so we're used to discovering strange new things and making em work
It would probably start out hectic, all forums do, we'll all be newbies to this posting style, but given some time it may become something special which, might I add, is virtually unheard of.

But I like to hate and ostricize and judge.  And if I say something cool, I want people to know it was me.

It's an interesting concept but it doesn't appeal to me.  I like to see the avatars and colors along with their respective contributions.  I want to get to know people, that's what make the Shroomery so great, IMO.

My first question is what would keep someone from injecting personalizing aspects of posts into the post itself? All it would take is a "fireworks_god" at the end of the post to establish identity. Would utilizing a distinguishing characteristic be a bannable offense? If so, then that question would be neutralized.

It is definitely an interesting idea, if enough people are interested in participating. If it didn't take off, it could always be stepped on like a starving newborn baby. :smirk: It would certainly be interesting to observe.

I was saying this would be a neat experiment in S&P a few years back. I have no idea how it would turn out but I am all for a test run.

I think we would see some things like-

There would be no stars, favorites or hero's to support, no losers people to hate, or tear down.

That would make for one interesting dynamic in a playing field, something NONE of us have every experienced in life anywhere. That would be cool to feel out.

There is no one making "look at me" attention whoring posts either because in such a forum, there are no "me's".

Topics would be far less likely to get derailed because they wouldn't be taken off by someone defending their reputation from a personal attack. There would also be no one to attack either. THAT would be refreshing!

There would be FAR MORE open and honest discussion because the fear of personal attack would be removed. People will be more likely to speak what is really on their minds. This is why it has the greatest potential to actually become the busiest and most interesting forum. No need to be PC or hold back and no need to maintain a persona or reputation.

It would give posters more freedom to experiment with their own sense of self. You could take positions you don't normally take just to see what it feels like. There is limitless potential to freely recreate yourself anew in each post you make without having to explain any change of mind or character. That would be neat to experiment with on a personal level for everyone I think.

In other words, it will be far less predictable how threads will go down.

There would be no psychological vampiring and energy draining, because there would be no identifiable prey to stalk and latch unto to start sucking off from. THAT would be a refreshing environment to be in. True freedom, no having to put and keep a guard or vigilant eye up.

How cool and weird to have no evident one on one discussions within a thread. You have NO WAY of knowing, if anyone responding to something you said, is the same one as the last or someone new jumping in where the other left off. That would be a TRIP!

Imagine having no reason to post the word "You" because there is no "you" in such a forum just the same as there is no "me". Its pointless to make, "you said....", "you are.........", "if you.......", comments because  there is virtually no one recognizable to aim them at.

Posting "I.........." comments are a waste as well.

It would be as if after each post you made, the you that posted it disappeared for ever, because no one will know, if it was you that ever posted anywhere again or not.

We would be dying ego deaths and being reborn with each and every post we made in such a forum. That would be a virtual trip.

Trolling would become pointless. You can't catch the invisible man.

Such a forum would provide a drugless vehicle for entering a mind bending altered state of being because like I said earlier, NONE of us ever get to experience a reality where there is no I or You, winner looser, victor victim, hero villain, teacher student , dynamic. They won;t exist in such a realm. That would be freaky. No one would ever be able to get a handle on you nor you on anyone else. Everyone would be like virtual ghosts.

I would call it the FREEDOM Forum.  You'd be free to be whatever you want to be from post to post. There would be NO expectations others hold of you to live up too. THAT would be so refreshing.

Trouble shooting-

You wouldn't be allowed to mention user names from the the regular forums. Those would be attempts at trolling in a forum designed to be troll free.

There would have to be a rule that you can't sign your posts. People could slander others in ways unimaginable with the freedom to sign off on someone else's known user name.

Anyone caught doing THAT (posing)should have their IP banned from that forum. Mods of such a forum should just warn users and delete any form of consistent sig people try to slip in for self identification purposes. If people can't resist the urge to identify themselves in some way, they have the regular forums to use.

The shroomery to me has been the most progressive message forum on the internet I have ever come across. This would be a radical progressive move into new experimental territory for message boards. ( As well as fitting for a psychedelic experimental society)

I hope this post stays up and open, can it even be stickied to get a wide variety of feed back on the idea?

First rate sociology experiement this would be to see how humans would communicate with ego idenifyers stripped away.

I think it would rock! :headbanger: :mushroom2:

:peace:
