Grow Log forum with pictures

I think it would be an excellent idea to post a forum or either a section on the shroomery dedicated to showing (with pictures), and going step by step with some of the popular teks. That way not only newbie's but also someone willing to try out a particular tek would not only have the text information on how to do it, but also some decent images to look at to see how everything should be moving along.. just an idea, I know I would appreciate seeing, and I'm willing to bet many others would tooo..... tell me what you think!

this is a nice idea, very *featured garden*... itd be nice for a vendor to "sponsor" one grow, one thread. sending spores no charge to the grower, perhaps other goodies (composts, etc.), and buying space for the page ads as well. (can you make one thread have one ad to itself? and then rotate the ads of the vendors who "sponsor" in the forum itself?)

im talking the serious, dependable growers here- not a possible rip off artist, but good growers who would make any strain shine. the shroomery (site) could make some $ for the extra ads, the grower gets a fresh strain of spores to work with (and fruits of their labour, of course!), hopefully the fsr would get great prints, everyone would get to see a continually updated grow, and q and a would be real-time, not hypothetical. plus, seeing each growers quirks makes you understand some things a little more than just asking hypos-

it should be strictly moderated, with only pertinant questions so the grow could later be archived, or the growers themselves (and perhaps the spore vendor) should have write only privileges- questions could be asked in another forum, and addressed in the thread if pertinent. then that would keep extraneous postings down...

see cw's featred garden- much like that. but with so many vendors, so many awesome growers, and a quick turnaround (compared to other harvests), the new forum(s) could really rock. it really ups the interest of the community in one particular strain, so vendors could really win out on these ones by upping interest and selling the strains... but there could be several grows, each with their own thread and sponsor- so no one would be left out. other vendors could sponsor as well, with other products... like filter disks, mycobags, pressure cookers (hell, someone give me a niiice all american and ill be free advertising! osc the spore whore, up for bids... not likely, but hey, worth a shot, no?) ::laughing::

i wish HQ would come back and volunteer for this... ::grin:: again, awesome idea dj~ for reals, great idea! (anyone listening?)

so, if a vendor sends out 1 syringe/print (retail=20$) and spends 20-?$ per thread (i have no idea how much it should.would cost) as ad revenue to the site, theyre only out approx. 40 (retail) or so, and would likely see their orders increase for that particular strain, more than the 40 retail theyd be out (and yes, im aware of the fact the actual prints are worth less than retail to vendors, so itd be less...)

and threads would end, and be completed in about 6 weeks or so, depending on the circumstances... so basically, it would be like a month (6 week) ad space for the vendor, terminating on the end of the thread. therefore a per thread price would be easy to maintain and watch over... little cost to vendors, more $ for the site, and interest in a new strain for the community. or whatever- compost, disks, etc.

vendors could ask the growers themselves as well... so no bad matches would/could be made btw vendors and growers. also, it could be possible to do it anonymously- new usernames for old posters who dont want to be named(though, personally i think namings a good idea, since a lot of the omc has to do with bragging and soforth (not in a bad way-) and id be honored if someone asked me, you dig?)

i also think its important that if this were to happen, the shroomery see a ad space sold, even if its not as i thought up above. esp. since this would be an image-based start to finish, and theyd be hosting bandwidth and image space, its important to be backed by vendors, as it could just be a fertile advertising ground.

sorry i keep rambling about this, and im sorry dj for stealing your idea, modifying it in a capitalistic sense i suppose... la la la

Sounds like a great idea, I know I would enjoy reading those threads!

Anyway, I was just thinking that it might be better NOT to have a very experienced grower (like Anno, and other experts) do the growing. Wouldn't it be better to have an ordinary grower (not a newbie though) do the growing so everyone knows that they can achieve similar results without having cultivated for 10 years.... Just a thought.

I'd rather watch Anno cultivate a difficult species (Pan Trop or Cyan's) using a bulk tek rather than watching a new grower fumble around and make a bunch of mistakes.

Have an experienced grower do it and have the questions addressed at the end of the thread.

Archive the thread in a new section.

Otherwise I like this idea.

I'm not talking about Pan. Cyans. In the case of a more difficult strain, then I agree with you that we need an expert grower. But when talking about Cubies, I would rather watch a good grower get some good flushes then see the same pictures we get from Anno and Ryche in the pictures forum. If you read correctly, you would have noticed that I said not a newbie. I wasn't talking about someone that would "fumble around", but I wasn't talking about someone who has memorized the Mushroom Cultivator and can grow Azures in an outdoor bed. Experienced growers wouldn't need a pictorial thread.

Either way it would be a good idea.

A Grow Log Forum is a good idea for the Shroomery. Mycotek already has one at his forum, and it's really a valuable resource tool. I think we should not restrict the forum by imposing rules and advertising and such. It would be much more relaxed that way, and if the poster wants to say where he/she obtained the spores then they can do that. If they don't want to advertise for a particular vendor, well, that's o.k. too. Here is my non-sponsored grow log of some colonizing BRF jars. You will notice, I mentioned where I obtained the spores, and where the recipe came from, but I wasn't forced to say these things because of some pre-arranged agreement. It's just alot more natural this way. Peace.

Regardless, an "expert" grower would be more effective(IMHO) in answering questions regarding his set up and what is actually going on during his grow.  But if ya want an intermediate thats your boat.

Would it be possible to have both an experience grower and a "superhero" grow the same strain with the same method. Maybe it would be easier to pick up the things that seperate the very successful grower from the average.
