Serious request for a new forum/section

I think the shroomery needs a new section or forum. It has been discussed repeatedly in the time I've been here. I would like to see a grow log section, a lab notes section type thing. Several people are already running logs in the pictures forum as well as occasionaly posting grow accounts in cultivation or advanced. I feel like those sections are for people to post questions most of the time and a section dedicated only to complete accounts of growing from spore to fruit would be nice. The new section would be fully moderated, with posts not being detailed enough moved to the correct forum immediately. Only very thorough and completely detailed accounts of cultivation would be posted here. With or without pictures. All the relevant information would be right there in one post. The teks in the grow/find section are great, but something always goes wrong. How people successfully deal with the small things would be a great help to many growers. Not to mention the fact that once you reach a certain level, you don't even use teks. You just use a conglomeration of methods you know will work to grow shrooms. I think that this type of section would be good for the shroomery not only to show people all the ways to grow successfully, but also what to not do. Detailed accounts of successes are important, but detailed analysis of failure is also important. This type of forum could well make the notion of "teks" obsolete. What would be ideal would be to have forms made for each cultivator to take notes as they grow. If somebody would like to make some spreadsheets or something, we might make it very easy to share all notes from each experiment. In the meantime, I think a section for those of us who have very detailed notes anyway, or those of us who like to make photo logs would be a great asset to the community. Or at least a section to archive such posts to. The posts could be made to either cultivation board, or the picture forum. A moderator could be chosen for an archive section and when someone thinks they've made a worthy post (or someone else has) they notify the archive moderator who then immortalizes the (possibly edited) thread in an archive somewhere with only other such reports. Maybe even in the grow/find section rather than on the BB Feedback?

Oh yeah, some system of organization would be needed. Not only key words like dung or grain, but also success/failure etc. Depending on how it's set up (archive or BB) would depend on the type of organization. I've been planning to just start my own site for this type of stuff for about a year now. If some people would like to put forth the effort, that might be better to get it done just right. I just don't have the time to design a new website and probably won't for a while. So, might as well try to get something like this here if we can.

I think this is a great idea. However, we seem to have a lot of forums allready.

i also think this would be a great idea, i am interested in learning how people mix their teks with others and it seems many people do. they tend to get better results. i work 2 jobs and don't have time to be experimenting, but it would be great if some people shared their information on it. very good suggestion mycofile..

I'd love to see a Grow Log Forum. This would be a great way for people to follow along. I think this would be a great teaching guide.

If there is no desire for adding another forum (even such a good one as I request), perhaps there simply needs to be an archive for grow logs. People will do them, and they shouldn't be lost as more recent crap burries them. Just save them to their own part of the grow/find section once all conversation has ceased.

well first the fourm idea is a step in the write direction, this would be the way to do it. dont use any type of fourm software. write the code to setup a growlog section to the website. anyone could veiw it, you would need to login to edit the info... KINDA like those journal sites just setup for the shroomery. Its not a very hard thing to code, the server already uses PHP and has the easiest database software to code php for installed.. so it should be really easy. Ive made a site similar to what would be needed and it only took a couple hundred lines, and just cause i was lazy three pages. (although if i could have easilly made it all with one page)... maybe ill reset it up and drop the link in here one day

I'm warming up to this idea, I hate to add more forums, but once our new server is up nobody will mind anyhow. Did you want the forum to be very specific, like only Grow logs, or could you add anything else to this forum?

what about all the incorrect posting we have allready? growlogs, if pictoral, should be in pictures.. advanced or novel tec's go in advanced.. etc.. we allready have alot of forums.. perhaps a refinement of what we have rather than just adding more?

Fine, if people don't like the idea of adding another forum, then do it some other way. The point would be to share data. At some point just past that of a newbie, a grower becomes a true cultivator and forgets about teks per se. You just grow all the ways you know will work, mix 'em up, modify 'em, do with what you have on hand. Everybody does it. For that matter, what would be perfect wouldn't be a forum at all, but maybe a little more complicated. You know those lab forms in the back of TMC? Turn those into a set of web forms for people to fill out. It would encourage people to take better notes, and would be a tremendous resource. Every cultivator who takes notes and has been at it for a while learns something everytime s/he flips through the lab notebook. Imagine having access to all the most advanced cultivators notes. That is more along the lines of the website I was thinking of starting, but not having the time for. anybody want to roll with that idea?

We really should at the absolute very least have a method and system for archiving these things in an organized manner. At least the good ones. Then the pictorials would stay in the picture forum and the pictureless would go in their respective forum, they could just be archived in a organized easily accessible manner.

Well, I totally agree with you. A grow log would be a great thing. Hopefully with the new server coming soon. This will become a reality. *crosses fingers*

Wow...this is a really good idea. Either another forum or an archive section specialized in grow logs. It would be great to include the best ones in the grow/find section. Some growlogs/pictorial are way better than written tek, especially for newbies.
