Transcendental Dreaming
    #6056454 -

Last night I had what I would call one of the strangest experiences of my life, possibly moreso than any psychedelic voyage I have ever been on.

I have been having trouble sleeping.  A variety of physical ailments, coupled with my excessive use of alcohol and cannabis, have left me unable for the past few days to fall asleep while sober.  The night before last, I slept for maybe an hour, moving uncomfortably in and out of ego-driven dream sequences.

Last night I went to bed at 10:30 and was unable to fall asleep til around 5 am.  I felt on the verge of screaming and punching my wall -- a really horrible feeling.  I wanted to cry: all my recent frustrations seemed to be biting me in the ass simultaneously, and I felt delirious.

Finally, I moved into an uneasy dream state akin to the one the night before.  My dreams were about my best friend, a girl I've been attracted to, my old neighborhood, my fear of driving -- very emotionally charged ego-matter; none of them were pleasant, all had the strong, eerie tinge of those strange stomach-knotting emotions that only come out in dreams, but linger just below the surface for hours, even days, afterward.

Then, and I have no notion of how this came about, I was in a new place entirely.  I was in Human Hell.  The most awful images of rotting flesh and decay surrounded me, and as these images of atrocity and suffering were catapulted toward me, I began to feel the most intense pain in my head, my abdomen, all the way down to my toes (such as I perceived them).  Strangely, though, I did not want it to stop.  I let it build, and build, and when the pain and the images were unbearable, I said/thought/emoted something like, "But the world is good!  It's all beautiful!" in a confident voice.  No sooner had I done that than it all stopped, and I was catapulted up, up, into a place I had never been before.  I felt joy welling up inside of me; a purple pyramid, surrounded by energy, and the face of a Hindu deity smiling back at me, were what I saw, were the only things I could connect with in that moment.  I was taken higher, higher, to a place I can not now even remember.

And then the next thing I knew I had just had another normal dream, a disturbing ego-dream, and I was back in my bed and only an hour or so  had passed, and I was back to being miserable and wishing I could fall into deep sleep.

Perhaps it had to do with DMT; I have not had a deep sleep in a long time, as far as I can remember; perhaps the place I was taken was where one should go every night, to the DMT realm, and because of my uneasy sleep I was taken there semi-lucidly and not allowed to stay.  Whatever it was, it was at the time more profound than many of my psychedelic experiences, and my memory of it more fleeting.

I feel like something is trying to break through!  Only two nights ago, I dreamed I had just taken mushrooms, and had a dream-trip more strange than I thought possible -- now this!  I have not used psychedelics in almost three months; I feel I have let too many old habits slide back into place after making more spiritual progress than I ever thought possible after my last LSD trip.

I intend now to train myself to sleep easily again, to get into great shape, to put my life on the course it should be on, and to figure out what these dreams are telling me; because one thing is for sure: they are saying something profound, something utterly unspeakable.

Does anyone else here have experience with transcendental dreaming?

I ordered it.

But, I live in the land of laws..
(Where the laws seldom are directed at one substance, but just banning all that is not made legal.. Thus getting the most idiotic laws in the word, if you ask a :mad2: me..)

Thus it got "stopped" in the customs..
No melatonin for me. :frown:

hey dude cut back almost entirely on alcohol and quite a bit on cannabis. the rule of thumb for cannabis is don't use it again until the afterbuzz goes away. the afterbuzz is when you haven't smoked for a long time then after that first smoke you feel real stoned the next day even, and then after a bit you feel back to "normal"

i'd only do it as a ritual really maybe to loosen my body for yoga or for meditation or psychedelic purposes.

alcohol i would only use in forms of beer or wine to relax.

there's no need to do that stuff so much is there? There's no reason to be miserable like that when instead if you use really really moderately, there is virtually no harm from either substance (and of course watch your lungs!).

now for dreaming. Meditation will help you have instant access to the dream realm when you go to bed. I have taken up breath awareness generally throughout the day if I am walking around I waill say "in/out" in time with my breath (and I try to do it all day long if I can) and if I do sitting meditatoin I generally count to 5, 7, or 10 while exhaling (slow paced counting).

last night i just somehow was saying "in........... out......." and well there I was in a lucid dream.

in fact I had a really very disturbing dream about alcohol. I was in some sort of bar with some sort of pool table talking to a very argumentative man who maybe is this philosophy teacher now that I think about it....... I was doing what I know how to do in order to be friendly but there was a big danger of us getting into a fight, and more importantly, of going to hell. It was quite bad and then I started talking to him of my disdain for alcohol and then the way dreams synch up with thoughts (since dreams are thoughts) I said something about "unless in huge moderation" and he agreed with that.

I woke up being really disturbing feeling like it was a warning that, since I will be 21 soon, to stay away, far far far away from the drinking and bar cultures.

at any rate, there's a book called the Tibetan Yogas of Dream and Sleep and it talks about how you can use the various chakras to have different types of dreams, and how the chakras correspond to planes of existence ranging from hell to heaven and everything in between. it's possible you went to a "real" hell realm and then transcended it and got a glimpse of the highest or higher levels of consciousness.
[actually the chakras would lead as portals to those planes if you were entering a particular one upon dying, there is nothing hellish or heavenish about any chakra that i know of they are all holy and transcendetal, just getting more refined as they go...... but in terms of dreaming he says the lower chakras have much more emotional and strange and irrational subconscious issues in them, whereas the higher ones have pleasant dreams (and you don't have to use the chakra system at all)]

I remember a Ayahuasca trip report in which the person was told by entities that we are loaded with DMT and are totally capable of entering the spirit realm every night during dreaming, if only we would learn how to.

Latley I've had many dream trips. My most recent one was smoking 5-meo-DMT. I've never even smoked 5-meo (though I have much nnDMT) before but I'm almost sure that when I do it will be just like what I experienced in my dream. It was the most intense dream I've ever had.

In another a few months ago I took a bunch of mescaline and was having a very dreamy trip. At some point, for the first time ever, I realized I was dreaming. I told everyone else that we were all dreaming but they all managed to convince me that we indeed weren't dreaming. It was bizarre.

Perhaps this should be in MRP, but I just needed to write it down ASAP and this thread seems to serve my purpose. Please forgive any grammatical inaccuracies or awkward prose - I still feel incredibly 'spaced'.

Last night, at some point in the dream state, I became 'lucid' - the most lucid I've ever been, at any rate, though I don't know who the 'I' experiencing this lucidity was exactly. I walked through a morphing, vibrant golden world which seemed to be some kind of classroom. I remember that if I focused too hard on the things around me, I ran the risk of waking up, but if I 'let go', so to speak, I went deeper and deeper into this strange state.

The next I knew I was in a vibrant dream that took place in some strange version of my grandfather's house. My family was gathered there for some holiday, most likely Thanksgiving.

It's all a blur now, but the next thing I remembered I was smoking DMT - with Terence McKenna! The experience was unlike anything I've ever felt, thought, said, emoted -- it was otherworldly. There is no doubt in my mind that this was a full-on 'DMT flash' - I was immersed for God knows how long in a four-dimensional chrysallis whose nature I can't even fathom getting a glimpse of now. The next thing I know, I'm locked in a strange, frenzied DMT-dance with McKenna.

We emerge into my grandpa's kitchen (which looks nothing like his actual kitchen, but I intuit that it is - you know how that goes). Everyone is going about their normal affairs - washing dishes, preparing food. Terence and I just have huge smirks on our face, chatting about unspeakably strange things. I walk over to my parents, who judge by the smirk on my face that I have just done something. "Yeah, Terence and I just smoked some DMT," I say confidently, reaching over and hugging my mother, who looks worn and haggard. I feel tremendous love emanating from my heart, like the afterglow of an amazing LSD trip. I want to tell everyone in the world that everything will be alright.

Terence leaves me with profound words - words I cannot not now remember - and I feel the need to urinate. I stand up and walk to the bathroom. As I am peeing in my dream, I wake up - with the urge to pee.

The rest of the night was almost as strange. After going back to sleep, I experienced two 'night terrors' - in the first I felt a creature running back and forth over my head as I lay in bed under my covers. I pulled my cover away, saw nothing there, and had a panic attack. I began running, shrieking, howling and falling over. Suddenly I woke up to find myself in the same position in my bed - or so I thought. In fact I was now in a second dream. I heard an indescribably disturbing sound - the sound of teeth being brushed, amplified tenfold. I called out to see if it was a family member. I checked my clock - it was only 4:20 in the morning! I began to panic, and as I screamed out 'Hello? Who is that?? Is anyone there?' terror crept over me and I pulled my covers tightly around me. Just as I did this I was released - once again into the same position in my bed.

I had to check if this one was a dream. I touched the surface of my skin, and my whole body had the same strange gooshy, four-dimensional quality that it takes on on mushroom trips. When I moved, my limbs seemed to float through the air with a will of their own. But I was definitely actually awake.

For the rest of the night, I lay in bed trying to cling to reality. Every time I closed my eyes, I would be transported to a strange new dream-reality; but at some point I would always realize I could open my eyes and it would be gone, and I would do so to find myself in the exact same position in bed. Then what seemed like milliseconds later, I would be in a totally different dreamworld, and would open my eyes again. In this way I probably had segments of about 45 dreams, only 1 or 2 of which I can remember in vivid detail and none of which are worth talking about in P&S.

I am still drained from this experience - it made my initial report in this thread seem mundane, run-of-the-mill. I have no way to prove to you, obviously, that what I experienced was a full-on DMT experience, but I am totally satisfied that it was; at any rate, if it wasn't, it was something as strange or stranger. When I woke up and realized it had been a dream, I felt like bursting into tears - of joy, sorrow, confusion, angst, whatever. I felt that I had actually been visited by Terence McKenna and glimpsed the Unspeakable. His words echoed in my head until I fell back asleep, and still do:

"I'll try to be around and about. But if I'm not, then you know that I'm behind your eyelids, and I'll meet you there."

and

"The universe is not stranger than you suppose. It is stranger than you can suppose."

great dream reports
really good
after a life of interest in psychedelic states you are flexing dreaming into a natural blotter.

you really are interested in psychedelic or you would not have such luck.

the rules of the looking glass world are that approach and avoidance both invoke equally.

Okay, I need some advice.

Last night I had another transcendental dream.  Actually, more accurately, it was this morning, right before waking up.  I thought I was awake and walking out the door of my bedroom.  It was all strikingly real, and suddenly I began to feel as though I was having a psychotic episode or an intense panic attack (neither of which I have ever had).  I looked out my hallway and felt frozen in space, like my world was melting around me.  Suddenly I saw a vision of myself.  This part is very hard to describe: essentially it was a fleeting image of me that seemed to be a composite of several photographs of myself - it was me looking at the physical 'me' I perceive from outside my body, from a 'mirror dimension'.  I wonder if anyone here can grasp this awkward definition, but it doesn't matter: suffice it to say that this felt very real and alarming, and I was sure I had snapped and was going insane.

The next thing I know I am spiralling through an intensely psychedelic world.  I see fragmented lines of code, and as the code approaches, it appears somewhat similar to the green-on-black code of 'The Matrix'.  I am not a non-entity here - I can remember that I exist - but I am in an alternate universe.  I feel waves of energy rippled up and down my body, an intense body high.  I decide to let go and see where the experience takes me - I can actually feel myself unclenching the muscles in my physical body and relaxing into the experience.

As I'm watching these lines of code, they get larger, and suddenly they are thing!  Each one is unique and multi-dimensional - and utterly indescribable!  These are McKenna's "impossible objects" - I am seeing things that cannot be things, and as I watch they grow closer and closer until they themselves are thousands of lines of code, which zoom forward and create new impossible images.  All the while I have this intense body high, and I can feel my body though my sense of self is, to say the least, seriously skewed.

As is usually the case with these dreams, I feel extremely strange the day afterwards.  When I woke up I felt refreshed and calm, but it gave way to confusion and angst.

A few months ago I had a life-changing experience that seemed to answer a lot of questions about my recent spiritual emergence.  I have already talked about it more than I should have, so suffice it to say that it was a legitimate, beautiful experience that left me in a strange shamanic-meditative repose for 3-4 days in which I forgot who "I" actually was and became "Him" or "It" on a very immediate level.  Following this, I started smoking salvia every day, then every other day, and smoking weed nightly - something I had done off-and-on for the past 5 years before this experience.  Slowly, though, I fell back into habit, although I still never fully 'descended'.  I also had what I thought was a chronic illness, intense pain in my testicle that was heightened whenever I drank, smoked weed, or smoked salvia.  Once on salvia I saw and felt negative waves of energy being beamed towards the affected area from on high, and was sure that it was a sign that it was my time to die.  Over the course of several weeks, I tried to resign myself to dying, something I'm now sure I did not even come close to doing, though I tricked myself into thinking I had several times.

Anyway, I have not smoked weed or salvia for a few weeks now, and have cut back on drinking.  I've been working out a lot, eating really healthy, and had a ton of diagnostics done which showed that there is nothing really physically wrong with my testicle, bladder, kidneys, etc. (although I do have an inflamed prostate).

Now I find myself having strange psychedelic experiences almost every other night, experiences more intense and bizarre than any I have had in waking life with entheogens.  They all take me to a place so deep (or high) that I can't even talk about it, but all leave me feeling uneasy and disturbed afterwards.  I'm concerned because a common motif in the aftermath of these dreams is other dreams which are extremely life-like, but which quickly turn strange and disturbing; I'll wake up out of these dreams shaken, only to find that I am in another life-like dream.  The rules of my reality are bending at night, and when I wake up I have to check myself to make sure that I'm in my 'waking state' for real -- sometimes it takes 10 minutes to shake the feeling that I'm in a strange dream-state.  I wouldn't call it "lucid", because I'm not really in control.

I remember Moonshoe's post about becoming lost in lucid dream states and losing your sense of reality.  I wonder if others here have had experiences with transcendental dreaming and multilayered lifelike dream states, and how they've dealt with them.  I get the overwhelming impression that something unspeakable awaits me in the very near future - I am in limbo, waiting to ascend.

Any input would be appreciated.

Last night I woke up out of one dream into another dream - in the second one I was lying in bed, and my room was red-ish, maybe, and an insane cartoon mouse with red eyes was popping out of a television screen that wasn't there and I was sure this was insanity.

Then in the morning I experienced intense and horribly scary sleep paralysis. I was in a vacuum and could create no pictures with my mind - I tried picturing my mother, and I got closer, and closer, and then there was an explosion, a visual and audial explosion, vast and destructive, and I was in a state of paralysis and I saw my body frozen in my bedroom and I could see the posters on my wall - horrified, utterly horrified - and then I woke up and I thought, "But I shouldn't be here, I should be at the beach!" Another recurring motif - waves, a beach, friends, but nothing is as it should be... Ego-driven perhaps, but hinting of something more, terrifying and otherworldly.

I am experiencing places in my 'real life' folded up into dream space, and each has an emotion attached to it that is not a 'human emotion', not a 'me' emotion, but a strange 'dream-emotion', an unspeakable connotation that leads me through a thousand fragmented images and feelings that I can attach to nothing - maybe desire, the death-vacuum at the bottom of the psyche. Now I go back and remember another transcendental dream I had forgotten about, where I am at a friend's house and the UFOs have finally arrived, finally, and I am on my knees and tears roll down my face...

Each night has turned into a strange and unspeakable experience. I don't really know how I feel about that, but my days have been clear-headed as ever...

I have gone through similar stuff.

"But the world is good! It's all beautiful!" in a confident voice. No sooner had I done that than it all stopped, and I was catapulted up, up, into a place I had never been before.

A good example of creating the dream of your life consciously with your self talk. It's powerful beyond what most imagine.

Showing me my inability to let go [Re: Lion]
    #6149345 -

Let go - let go!!!

It sounds so simple.

This morning, between strange but familiar dreamscapes and becoming fully awake, I went into another one of these realms.  Like the others it was beautiful, but I was perched at the edge, terrified - I could not relinquish myself to its control in this state of flux, when I could literally open my eyes and see my bedroom, when I could feel my entire body engulfed in an intense rippling-energy high, but could feel this thing taking over and knew if I could just LET GO it would take me deeper...

Fragmented spiralling lines of code becoming impossibly strange 3D images becoming deeper lines of code, and my entity, my self being sucked with them into deeper levels of the dream computer...  I get emotional overlap with dreams and strange new salvia-states... I get shards of dreams stuck in the sides of other dreams, and strange, powerful emotions morph between dreamscapes into new strange, powerful emotions - all hinting at something, all uploading my past and my future.

I woke up feeling great this morning, refreshed.  I'm glad for that, at least.

I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

Yes... Transcendental dreaming is a new phenomanon for myself... Ive had one. Close to my last birthday, camping at a place that to me, is spiritually charged.

All your daily dramas you can escape from in so many different way, but when you sleep they surface, your dreams are guides to better modes of living.

but when you deny yourself dreams things get increasingly worse, physically as well (its all interconnected).

Try paying attention to your dreams especially ones like this!

Things ARE beautiful! you saw that in your dream, why cant you see that in life?

why must you fill yourself up with so much worry and drama? When everything ends up working out in the end, regardless of worry. Choice my friend, choice.

wake up in your dreams, yes... but wake up in your daily life. your daily sleep. Love is around you, you just need to work on moving it through you.

peace brother
Casil

This sounds like what I saw during my most intense trip. I am very envious that you have allowed yourself to let go so often. I am having very similar experiences in reality. The panic comes about randomly when I smoke weed mainly other drugs as well, only happened once sober.

I get panic attacks rarely, but I see them as the gateway to my enlightenment.

I get so frightened I think I will die. I don't, but I am always so scared I will when it happens again. I have let go once and it led me to the higher levels you are talking about. I am just starting a set of meditation and yoga classes at a local spiritual center. I am very happy to have finally found something like this.

I hope in time I will be able to let myself go again. I told myself in the first trip I would not be ready for a long while. This is very odd, because I only just remembered this detail which unnerves me a little.

I have been feeling this disattachment from things I "know" that has just started recently and become ever so slowly more prevalent. I will look at a word and just think about how wierd it looks and I have no idea what it means. Last night I was studying for an Ethics Midterm and I read the word "true" multiple times with no idea what it meant. I knew the disattachment was imposing itself slightly so I shook it off and told it I wasn't ready.

I soon think I will be ready if I continue on my current path. I think many people feel this. The awakening if you believe in such a thing.

Hey, bug I was wondering if you might read my trip report in my signature and tell me how similar the ideas and feelings are from your own perspective as I see them very similar.

I'll certainly read your trip report. I know I'm not alone in this emergence - and it feels good to know that there are others trodding similar paths.

Todcasil and Gomp, thanks for your words (and emoticons) of support.  Casil, I am making a concerted effort to consciously and lucidly perceive the more sublime qualities of Being every day - with tremendous positive results.  My dreams have been constantly and consistently revealing my ego-attachments and their consequences, as well as the possibilities that lie beyond egocentricity.

Last night I dreamed that thousands of multicolored ships streaked across the sky, leaving geometric bands of lights in their wakes.  These bands came together into a unified whole and I transcended the earthly realm (such as it is in a dream-state) to align with it.

The rest of the night was colored by dreams of attachment and confusion, yet a part of me felt centered, a calm observer in a maelstrom of ego-projection.

Lying in bed this morning I had what some might call a mushroom flashback - the world I entered, in a half-dream state, was the domain of psilocybin, the domain of the Elves.  I was shocked to find myself there, in that most alien of worlds - and not just in it, but deep in it.  I could feel myself dying, giving my 'self' up to the Pure Experience, but it was terrifying and some part of my ego brought me back.  Lying on the verge of the Experience, feeling my body trembling, I began to feel the Elves chant to me in their primal language, an overpowering, visible language of Love and Madness.  They were calling to me, saying, "Come over here.  Come deeper with us.  Don't you want to go deeper?"  I shook myself away from it, knowing (or convincing myself, at any rate) I was not ready for it in that moment.

Just a few minutes ago I felt a shiver run down my spine as I looked at the date: December 22.  It has been exactly one year since I first ventured into the mushroom world, had my first (and to this day most profound) experience with the Other.

Life is mysterious and beautiful.  :mushroom2:
