I was use to buying sclutz(sp?)at wolly world but they must off discontinued it.So i go to an other store all that he was able to find was very course vermiculite.This stuff is alot courser then sclutz brand.My question is i remeber reading were the finer type is more desireable.What are the disadvatages of using this type in cake culture?I don't think that course verm should do and thing for the casing.They are about 1-2 cm each

My guess is that course vermiculite causes larger gaps for the mycelium to cross inside the jar slowing down colonization. I have never tested this hypothesis.
