I can?t believe this retarded thing is still going around.
Asbestos or any silica based mineral powder can be dangerous.
Don?t breathe Vermiculite, perlite, lime, gypsum or SAND dust it?s just not good for you the best thing it?s just to wet it down and or mix out side and if you are going to be mixing a bunch get a face mask.

all of the above materials make dust that can have sharp barbed sides and get in your lungs and cut your lungs over and over till it becomes a pod of scar tissue its called silicosis you can get it even from sand but you don?t see the people at channel 8 news telling people to stay away from beaches

just be smart its not a good idea it stick the vermiculite bag over you head and talk and breath like darth vador ,vermiculite is made buy puffing the mineral mica the people who mine it take precautions and so should you ,But that does not mean to spread misinfo
Silicosis
Quote:

Silicosis, one of the oldest occupational diseases, still kills thousands of people every year, everywhere in the world. It is an incurable lung disease caused by inhalation of dust containing free crystalline silica. It is irreversible and, moreover, the disease progresses even when exposure stops. Extremely high exposures are associated with much shorter latency and more rapid disease progression.

Silica dust is released during operations in which rocks, sand, concrete and some ores are crushed or broken. Work in mines, quarries, foundries, and construction sites, in the manufacture of glass, ceramics, and abrasive powders, and in masonry workshops is particularly risky.

Sandblasting is one of the high-risk operations for silicosis. Any abrasive blasting, even if the abrasive does not contain silica, may pose a silicosis hazard when it is used to remove materials that contain silica, such as remains of sand moulds from metal castings.

Some operations, like dry sweeping, the clearing of sand or concrete, or the cleaning of masonry with pressurized air can generate large dust clouds. Thus even in open air these activities can be hazardous.

Yeah, just cause it doesnt contain asbestos, doesnt mean its safe to breathe. Anything with heavy dust like verm should be wearing a dust mast around it..

At many hardware, you can buy the huge 4 square feet bags for about $20. And if you live anywhere close to a big city in the US, there will be plenty of hydroponic stores for growing weed. They always have the big bags. One big bag will last you a long time unless you are growing mountains of shrooms.
