One of my professors died today

On Monday I found out that my chem professor from last semester went into a coma last Friday. Apparently she had an aneurysm 2 years ago which they caught in time and fixed. I wasn't particularly worried about her being in a coma, because most of the time people come out of comas with no real issues other than some memory/cognative loss.
I find out today during lab that she died this morning from complications due to her aneurysm 2 years ago.
I guess you could say I became "friends" with her.
My current chem professor was probably BEST friends with her. Today during lab some lady came in all frantic and pulled my current professor aside (whom I've also befriended). When he came back he was white as a ghost. I knew something was wrong. I went to lecture and he started lecture off by saying "We're probably not going to be doing much in class. We've gotten into most of what we need to learn about Reaction Mechanisms. How many of you have heard the news about x (my past professor)?"
The class just fell dead silent because most of us had her for the previous class. I know a ton of people felt awful about her death, but I don't think it hit as hard for most people. Her and I talked about both of our college experiences and what we enjoyed/disliked about them. She truly was a friend of sorts and I'll miss her big time. One thing that fucks with my head a lot is I promised her that after I see Rutgers I'd let her know what I thougt about it. Now that's not possible. At all.
It's really a strange thought that someone you've befriended won't be there to talk to you anymore. As much as you want them to be there, there is absolutely nothing you can do.
Death = awful.
I just felt like ranting. Thanks for reading, if you did.

Sorry to hear that man. And I really have nothing to say except, go to Rutgers and work your ass off to make her proud of you.

I read it.. I have had similar relationships with school teachers. It actually sounds familiar to me. Sorry to hear about that - it sucks to lose someone who is very helpful, friendly, and that makes a difference.

Was it something that could have been prevented?

Yes, I believe it was. If they would have done an MRI when she arrived they could have seen what was wrong and operated immediately. Instead they waited to see if she would pull through while blood continued to leak into her brain cavity.
