emotional manipulation

This isn't a discussion as much as something I'd like to tell you about..

as some of you know maybe, there was a war here about 15 years ago.
So, there is this guy, who was like a mayor or something in my town during the Serbian agression on my town. So the town was surrounded by enemy forces, and everyone feared that they might ocupate it, fortunatley the war ended before they managed to conquer it.
And this guy, was accused of doing some nasty things during that period. Everyone fled the town, and maybe 20 000 people left inside, mostly military, police and politicians and some people.
Well, some people confessed now, that they were given orders by this guy, to liquidate some Serbian civilians.
This guy is a real asshole in real life, but I don't know if the charges are true or not, probably are, since there WERE such crimes in this town during the period of siege, and he WAS in charge, but that's besides the point.

Well up until recently, he had some kind of immunity for being a witness for some Serbian crimes on the Den Haag court. But now, the Croatian government wants to take this immunity from him, so that he may be charged for his own crimes.
Well anyway, the parlament has made its decision, and it will be so..

and now the guy is scare and wants to defend himselfs anyway he can..

and here is what he did:

Since the current government in my town is still quite corrupted, and those that work there now, are friends with this guy, so they let him get away with such a thing:

He made posters printed and placed in the entire city yesterday.
The posters are like this:

There is a text: "and what about Croatian victims?"
And then there is a collage of photographs of corpses of Croatian soldiers mutilated by granades or bullets.
Some are compleatly burned, some have their brains blown out, some have missing faces.
Well you get the picture, the typical war scenery.
The photographs are the ones from police files, you know when they take pictures of corpses on autopsy. Well he used those photographs and made a poster out of them.

The idea was probably to get the attention of all citizens, and make them support him by using their emotions from seeing such pictures.
And the logic behind this kind of defense seems to be: screw the ones I've killed, look at what THEY did to us...
Which is of course, a pathetic excuse.
He is a complete psycho, and probably guilty, but I can't know for sure of course.

Can you imagine that?
I can only imagine how it must be for some mother or wife to recognise his loved one on one of those pictures.
Not to mention that children could really be spared of such horror images.

Well anyway, besides seeing what a selfish moron this guy is, and how corrupted the local government is (this would never get a permision in the capital) this is really the first time I've seen such images. I never knew war is such a horrible sight.
These people on pictures are from my town, and it's really a new glimpse of mortality for me. Those bodies look like hollywood props, so twisted, so rigid. They really DON't look like humans, as if all the humanity is drained from them, and this burned, cut flesh is all that is left. A freightning sight.

People are easy to manipulate. So if that's true, someone will do it.

indeed. And what is even more amazing is how in war, a handfull of people can create crap for a whole bunch of people.
All it takes is 10 soldiers, and a really mean guy in charge to destroy houndrets of families for ever.
Wars are always fought on a smaller scale than it seems on TV.

The echo that it creates afterwards would make it seem as if a huge army of tens of thousands of people raided the land. In reality, it is probably 40 drunk soldiers making shit for years to come on such a large scale.

Well, luckily the government in the capital is not so stupid, they realise that if the process took place in this town, there would be a lot of pressure due to corruption. So the trial is going to take place in the capital.
Which means, he can manipulate people here as much as he wants, it won't make a difference there.

But what really caught my imagination when I saw the pictures, was that I saw a story behind every picture. I saw dads, housbands, sons, boyfriends. It's freightning to think that one of those butchered heads has been someone some poor girl was in love with once, or that one of those heads was kissed by a kid before daddy went to war.
How fragile human life is. How crude the flesh is.
One minute you have your best friend, the next he looks like something from a grill and you are looking for his arm somewhere in the grass to take home to his wife.
No wonder the whole generation of them is screwed up with PTSS.
They do crazy things now, like call the TV threatning to kill themself after wraping themselfs in the national flag and spilling gassoline all over themselfs and stuff like that..crazy..

So true. I have friends who served in Viet Nam who played catch with their dead friends detached body parts. They were forever warped. My friend said that now if he saw someone being murdered he would just walk on but if he saw someone hurt a dog he would stomp them bad. He said people deserve what they get and animals never do.

That's pretty warped and pain driven thinking. :frown:
