all i can say is wow first of all.

this book was one of the most interesting i have read thus far.

does anyone know why he wasnt at the symposium?

i am about 2/3 of the way through this and i have a particular question about dmt and salvia.... they seem to have alot of the properties (i actually havent done DMT, and have only smoked salvia once with no break thru)

but i have read quite alot.

my question... he states in his book that all of his research, DMT, is the only psychedelic to which people actually interact/meet beings/entities....

but dont people have interactions/meetings with beings/entities on salvia?

i could be wrong, but this was kinda the general idea that i have gotten from salvia.

for those of you who havent read his book, he did government approved dmt injections right into the blood.

thats right people... shooting up DMT! i have thought alot about this and its hard for me to think if i would do it. i would really like to in order to see its full effects.

People tell that the DMT and slavia experience are completely different. But although I've never experienced DMT before, it has always been my assumptiont hat the effects of both drugs are fairly similar or they least yeiled similar experiences. Last time I brokethrough on Salvia, I even thought I was on DMT when I was smoking it.

Actually, most of his test subjects were given DMT intra-muscularly (IM) not IV. They injected the chemical into the shoulder or back I believe. It's been a while since I read that book, but I started it again last night. It's a great read for sure.

I'm pretty sure Salvia was still fairly underground when the book was written so it probably wasn't compared to DMT, and even then, I doubt they are too similar. Their chemically very different.

as far as DMT being similar to Salvia... I have yet to try either, so I can't really comment. I have read a ton of trip reports/experiences of each of these substances though. I have found many similarities between smoked DMT and smoked salvia including the duration of the trips and meeting/sensing enitities, etc.

chemically different maybe, but the effects could be very simlar... alot of people here talk about entities while on salvia.

and real_poopypants... he only tested one person with the IM design, everyone after that he did by IV because the effects would be stronger, im positive.

the testing they did on DMT back in the 50's was mostly done my IM injection.... but like i said im 100% positive all of rick strassmans research was done by IV.

does anyone know why he wouldnt be at the symposium? is he still alive?

yes i also have seen the similarity of the trip times and the force/intesity of the trips of salvia and dmt.

sorry, you're right. Like I said, it has been a while since I read it. I remember now. I think he was originally going to do IM injections, but he changed his mind for some reason.

yeah his first test pilot was done by IM, but they realized it wasnt strong enough so they switched to IV instead.

Yes, he is still alive.

In regards to the symposium, there could be a number of reasons he didn't attend. There were plenty of other researchers in the field NOT in attendance. He may have had other plans, commitments etc.

I remember reading the abstracts for some of the talks and it didn't seem as though there was a lot of original research presented there more like commentary/opinions than actual research.

man, I would have loved to have been a part of that experiment. I think I was only about 12 years old when it started though.
How would you go about getting pure DMT to inject?? I'm assuming you would have to have a good background in chemistry.

when i went to the symposium i didnt even know what dmt was...

but for him to be at the forefronts of his research in this field... as important as the symposium really was... i dont care what else you had going on... this should have taken front stage, this was a once in a life time event to be a speaker, and an attendee at.

but im kinda glad he wasnt there, with hope he may be at the future ones and i will DEFINTIALLY be at this seminars... along with jeremy narby!

no dude, salvia and dmt do not compare at all
seriously they are so different, the only two things they have in common is that they are very fast and very immersive

but
dmt is muuuuch better than salvia

the DMT rick strassman was getting was almost 100% pure and he got it from a chemical company that the government ok'd basically.

to get what he had is almost impossible unless you are a chemist or are brothers with one.

it hurts reading that huge book on the comps... oww my eyes... i got myself a real copy, its under 20$ and GREAT. i couldnt put it down.

exactly. not similar at all.

salvia has a strange disassociative effect. DMT is a psychedelic tryptamine in its purest form. think "mushroom crack".

DMT trips are usually overwhelmingly beautiful, salvia trips are usually just wierd.

Just an interesting side...

Strassman had his DMT synthesized by David Nichols. Another well known hallucinogen researcher and medicinal chemist.

Most on the board know Nichols for his (relatively) recent review "hallucinogens".

anyways, yeah that books great, but some stuff sounds bogus and some of the trip reports are just weird. i mean, a guy getting analy raped by an alligator? while laying on his back? wtf ?
