Anyone Tried PCing Jars with Tyvek + Ring, No Lid?

Subject says it all. Anyone tried leaving the jar lid out of the equation completely and just covering with a layer of Tyvek and clamping down with a ring?

I ask because of a sub-thread in this post about micropore coming loose during PCing and thus negating the point of having the micropore at all (filtration).

My gut tells me that it would work and let the steam out properly. You could inoculate the jar with a syringe or LC and just cover the hole in the tyvek with micropore. Plus you'd have excellent gas exchange.

Then again, my gut is usually wrong...

yes i have... success... kinda dry, but i grew lipstick mold see my sig.

i can say it will work, but may dry out too much. your call

well yeah i have only with some aliminium foil covering the jars and i had no problems with that

i had a similar idea... after seeing how people use micro pore over holes as a filter i went out and bought a roll... i was planning on using it on a lid with two 1/4 inch or so holes covered with micropore. after PCing it i was planning on inoculating through one of the pieces of micropore and cover the inoculation hole with more micropore.

i have had a piece of polyfil fall out while PCing and the tyvek under the lid held up fine...

having no metal lid will dry out your jars most likely depending on the humidity of your house. im not talking about in the pcim talking in teh weeks after.
