Pint jar w. polyfill lid and no verm

What will happen if I make a pint or 1/2 pint jar and use a polyfill lid and don't use the layer of verm at the top, so there is just an empty space between the top layer of substrate and lid of jar?? Thanks!!!!

i hope to soon find out, i just did the same thing with one jar, i didnt want to throw the substate out, but there wasnt enough to make more (ran out of rice). my guess is it will either dry out or contam. ill let you know, in about 3 days.

Well,
I made up a few jars without a Verm top layer as a test.
I didn't get any contams.
They are ready to case.
