These people do not have everything they need!

Opening up to strangers is a pretty hard thing to do. The last time I had a chance to some guy looked like he was freaking out at a concert and he kept looking at me.... but then he'd look normal and I assuemd he maybe just had a headache... but I should have just said "hey man are you allright?" to him at least.

What I was saying is that these people do not even have 1 1000th of what they "need" in life, in response to you saying "everything they need" .... I want to eradicate the distinction that money = "well off" ... money = "well off" if you know how to use it, rather than you let it use you.

But yeah I mean I do not disagree with you. I was kind of nervous because he seemed like he was staring at me actually.... but yes I should have said something.

Depression isn't selfish or unselfish. It's a person living erroneously and off-balance in some way, quite often being unable to realize what the problem is.

Depression and stress go hand in hand of course, many many many many many people are stressed the fuck out in todays middle-class society due to financial circumstances.

I think depression can be selfish at times, sometimes when people feel generally bad about themselves they don't see how it is effecting others, others who may also be feeling down as well

It was a pretty cool thing getting that guy a job man,

no, because depression sets the focus on the individual. it puts them in a loop of why me, me, me.

not saying that if you are depressed then its ONLY because you are selfish, thats not the case, but honestly, depression is not healthy for the person, or those that the person is around.

I think depression in our society stems from a mass repression and cognitive dissonance. People are depressed because the world sucks and they have been raised into a culture of illusions. Sad feelings are there to tell us something IS wrong and we need to change it, but we are taught to hide from the truth and bury ourselves in shallow consumer lives. People don't want to know where the products they buy come from, or that they end up in land-fills, that we kill animals to get meat, that people have to work hard to produce the things consumers take for granted, that we will soon run out of land and recources, that the government is infringing on liberties, that the environment is getting destroyed etc. Because we don't want to confront uncomfortable realities all the negative stuff in the world doesn't go anywhere and people feel hopeless.

depression stems from our own expectations and assumptions. once you can let go of both of those, depression would have a hard time "sticking" to you.
