Kevlar is great if they don't shoot you in the head..... or blow off a limb... or blast you to the fucking moon with an IED. It's only used to buy you time, not save you from the situation. Plus, that shit is uncomfortable hot.

Better up that budget from $3000 to about $300,000 so you can hire a few professionals to watch your ass while you galavant around that nightmare.... :rolleyes:

Also, suffer's been to the area twice (Egypt both times). He's got a big bushy beard, but they still know he's an American the minute he steps off of the plane.

The group that he was with had armed police men guarding the doors to the place they were staying, and escorting them to and from work every day, or they probably would have been robbed or worse.

Why not? I think that is probably a good idea in order to reduce attention to oneself in this type of situation. I personally would just tan and begin growing a beard.

Egypt really isn't too bad, I visited Cairo and most of the places/sights within a few hours of the city in summer '05.. The people were generally nice to me, and didn't give me too much of a hassle. On a side note I was born in Iraq and speak arabic.

Got a few "Down with America!" shouts when I was shopping but nothing more.

Go to the U.A.E.

Pretty cool place to visit and not as much of a threat to Americans. And for all those who I know will try and flame this and say U.A.E. is just as bad; suck my big fat toe. I was there for three weeks this past year and didn't find much of a threat at all. Of course we were briefed about terrorist activity and all that shit, but where can you go now without being told about a "terrorist" threat? U.A.E. is the place to go if you just want to visit the mid-east. (Abu Dahbi and Dubai to be exact)

israel is alot more safer.. the thing about middle east is that your not safe anywhere you go but some places people care less than other places. UAE is pretty strickt , you can expect trouble just brining a magazine with you. I had rolling tobacco with me when i signed up on a boat there years ago and they customs sampled the tobacco first heh,. also music and wharever can get you in troube. but if you know all this before you go im sure you can have a good time. just dont draw any pictures of mohammed on a public toilet down there
