How long does poo stink up the house when it is pasturized?

I'm thinking about giving horse poo a shot, but I have read that it stinks really bad when put in the oven. How long does the smell linger? How bad is the smell on a scale of 1-10, 1 being funky 10 being absolutely nausiating

I rate a 2. It's an extrememly organic and simple compound. The poo that I had(fresh)smelled like bark mulch.
Turn on the hood fan, open a window, burn insense or whatever and you'll be fine.

Properly aged manure has zero smell when pasteurized.

If the poo you've collected isn't properly aged, you could set it outside on a tarp for a week or two to get nice and weathered. You don't actually even need the tarp, I just use it so the poo doesn't melt into the ground if there's a lot of rain in the forecast. That way the poo will be in the right state and you won't get a funky smell.

pasturized poo itself doesn't smell much at all, if you open a bag 7 feet away I probably won't notice (if I wastn't poo savvy). During the pasturizing, however, the smell does increase but it doesn't linger long at all

I dont know about anybody else, but Im tired of smelling it pasteurize. Yeah, it might smell like potting soil, but god does it f cking linger. And the shits aged and all, but even my gurl bitches me out when I do it.

Just be careful you don't exceed the 180 degree mark. Let it get up to 200 for a few mins and you will have a bacterial bloom..... Now that shit stinks man.

I agree with Fungus man that the smell over time can be a little annoying but it's worth it really. Oust, febreez hell even scented candles all work pretty good to remove the smell.

I don't care what anyone else thinks, but I'm with FM on this one. It may not smell like shit, but it DOES smell. Call it "earthy" or whatever the hell you want to, but it's not a good smell unless you were raised in a barn. If you live with someone that doesn't share your enthusiasm with this hobby, they're probably gonna tell you how they think it smells and I'll bet they won't use the word "earthy" to describe it. :grin:

To minimize the smell, I get a cheap styrofoam cooler, put the pillowcase o' poo inside with a weight to hold it down. Then bring a big pot of water up to 180F. Dump the water into the cooler and close the lid tight. Wait about an hour or 2 and you're done. You won't smell anything until you open the cooler up. :thumbup:

when i do my poo i mix it all up to field capacity and place it in a big ziploc bag and put it in my pot with a plate on the bottome and then put a brick on top of it to hold it down. i get 0 smell.. and trust me my wife bitches if she even thinks im doing something that could smell, and she has never said a word.. well exept for the poo allover the counter top.. :P~

I just started my pasturization (sp?) process at 8, the house stopped smelling at 11 with real good ventilation and incense. Follow tips above and no one will be the wiser.

Horse poo reminds me of the circus. I was going through the procedures, and a friend got too close to the poop soup and started dry gagging! Guess I'm imune...

I give the smell a stinky 12 out of 1-10

I once tried pasteurizing fresh dung... and it was the worse smell ever, and all my neighbors def smelled it... it prob made there whole closet of clothes stink as much as mine... oh well

would not suggest doing it with fresh dung

i'm with you man. i've never under stood this "earthy" desciption.
the ony thing i can guess is city mouse country mouse analogy.
properly aged shit smells nowhere near as bad as fresh shit smell's but it does have a smell.
