this poo stinks!

a few weeks back i had a spare jar, and used it to spawn a couple quarts of rabbit poo. kept it in the dark around 75deg (yeah i know, a little cold). about a week and a half ago i checked it and it didnt look very colonized.  i figured it didnt care for the rabbit poo, but didnt want to give up on it.

however when i went to break it open and the entire inside was colonized! so i mixed it up with some h/poo and verm, and put it back in the dark. afterwards i knocked up probably 8 quarts of h/poo and verm with a couple more jars in another container.

i checked it today and not only is the first not colonizing, but it has a funk smell to it...somewhat acrid, not quite like anyhting i've smelled before.

the h/poo spawn however is 50% colonized (i know, too cold it would be pretty much there by now at 80deg) and also has a funny smell, but not near as funky. i can tell it was too moist in that one, but no signs of contams (other than the smell in the first batch?)...

why could the first one be stalling? a combination of substrate change and a drop in temps? (heater issues grr) i'm confused... :stoned:

He remains this way for about three hours, making bizarre noises, pretending to be a new species that must learn to walk and talk and eat, etc. And he communicates with other life forms by way of the antennae on his head. Eventually we jam a tube from a waterbong into it's mouth and figure he's learned all he needs to know.

You didn't mention anything bout sterilizing. Maybe thats why? I take it you live on a farm eh? Convenient I'd say.
