The silliness of anger
    #5217477 -

While I will concede that there is a place for anger when one is physically threatened or when one's rights or property is being usurped as a means of focusing energy to accomplish a specific task; this is not the type of anger that I am addressing in this thread.

Most of our anger comes from creating a false picture of how another should speak or act (or some other form of denial of reality) and then getting emotional that our false picture does not match the real picture.

Do you see? We make a projection, then react to our own projection. It is like deliberately smashing your pinkie with a hammer then crying out in pain and wondering why it hurts. Doesn't get any sillier than that. Grasp this one simple truth and make a hyper-jump in spiritual/emotional maturity.

I already kind of "knew" that because I had read about it many times, but the other day I had to make a choice about my anger toward someone who seriously deserved anger. I feel like I made a good choice. Being actively angry at him wouldn't have solved anything.

You are almost there.

Now you need to drop the "they deserved anger" part of the equation to complete the transformation.

I differentiate between these "types" of anger as follows:

Type 1: Motivating Anger

Type 2: Temper Tantrum

I would like to add something

Don't get caught up in Yesterday or Tomorrow. Live one day at a time. When we get caught up looking at the past and looking towards the future, we get so tangled up and hung up we can not properly function in the NOW that is today..

your right swami anger is silly, there is one problem however and that being that it is still a part of being human.  You cant reason away anger, you can control it and be mature as you say but you can never truly rid yourself of anger towards the actions of certain people or things or ideas.  Its part of being human.  Sure after a while one realizes that its petty and stupid to assume that you can get people to wise up to your side or whatever your anger is directed at, because opinions have the tendency to be stubburn.  That said i dont think you ever really stop finding something annoying.  and annoyance leads to anger.

All im saying is that no one, no not even teh mighty swami, can remove themselves from feeling petty anger(I think that is a good word for the type of anger you describe)  Some people feel it less than others just as some poeple are more emotional than others.  That doesnt mean your more enlightened just because you have more control over it.

way to make yourself look way smart to the kids tho

I disagree completely.  It is entirely possible to alter what you find annoying/angering by changing the way you think about it.

If you tell yourself that something is unacceptable, you will react with anger.  If you change the message, you change the reaction.

Very direct, very difficult, and, yes, very human.

True dat!

When one stops insisting that things be a certain way, the anger is not suppressed or controlled; it merely disappears like morning fog as the sun rises.

Why this preoccupation with what other people might think? Everyone will make up their own mind as to any poster's foolishness or wisdom. (And will likely be wrong.)

yes yes your both right of course, but it is only when you have already experianced the anger or annoyance that you can make yourself accept it as part of the world and move on. To say the anger never exists at all in you is false. EVERYONE experiances anger, its imprinted into our DNA, and whole areas of the brain are devoted to it. No one is immune.

Are they wrong because your right? why do you feel the need to only make posts in which you show off your APPARENT knowledge?

Please name the gene responsible for anger, as well as the part of the brain which is "devoted" to it.

Perhaps you are referring to emotions in general, rather than anger specifically?

the part of the brain hasnt been pinned down yet. Heres a story.

http://cercor.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/content/full/13/10/1023

as for teh gene well i wasnt aware of this till i researched it a little but apparently its a gene you DONT have.

on a side note im sure your right ALL emotions are linked in the brain does that mean we can just exclude ourselves from one of them. Nope id say it makes it even less likely that one can avoid anger alltogether.
