Not knowing the answers to the "big" questions, and the possibility (probability) that I will never know.

It's not enough.

I try my best to control my anger, but sometimes I'll be debating with an obnoxious idiot, particularly in the Political forum, and they'll say something so ignorant that I curse the "no flaming" rule.

oh, an idiot in the political forum made you angry?
he got you, consider that, and over time he will cultivate that anger in you, try to make you see friends as enemies, try to make you hate the world around you.
it all comes the fear of being alone.
perhaps instead of reading that posters inflamitory oppinion, focus on something trivial, you know, something of beauty. the definition of which is entirely up to you.

dont let your will be subverted by the basic truth that it is subvertable.

instead, start a fire inside, a warm center. now cultiate this well, like a child. socialize it.

before long you wont be able to tell this fire from yourslf.

then you are free of your anger.

I get mad when I am combing my beard and the dead hairs fall out. I'm trying to grow my beard out to about six or seven inches, and it pains me when I lose pieces of it that have taken 5 months to cultivate.

It doesn't quite look like a full muslim beard, it looks more like the beard Jesus has in FG's avatar.

I try and stay away from Anger as an emotion. I think it's a dying emotion.

However...I am extremely frustrated with ignorance and elitism (which we all need to be careful of!).

Is it legal to admit to allowing one's self to give in to anger on the S&P forum???

I don't get angry about too much. But I can hear my girlfriend, who visits this forum, laughing in the caverns of her apartment.

So, to be honest, what makes me get angry is when I say what I believe, and someone wants to try to convince me that I'm wrong. I don't mind someone sharing their viewpoint, but I hate when it is shoved down my throat.

I get angry over injustice. Which *sounds* like a good thing. But when you think about it, evil usually stems from a reaction to injustice. Evil doesn't just happen in a vacuum. Someone or some group gets done dirty and responds with negativity which creates that downwards spiral engulfing entire places like the Middle East right now. When you feel your bad behavior is justifiable, and others is damnable you're on dangerous ground.

I know I'm like everyone in the sense that I have both a light and dark side. I was told a few years ago by a friend that she was "scared of my dark side" which scared ME because she was pretty dark herself. It seems to gain power when I try to repress it and is like a distorting wave that I believe reaches out and touches any living being nearby whether they know it or not. By bringing my anger "into the light" I started weakening the anger in me.

Since then I've been working on recognizing the anger before it takes hold and denying it energy. I first try to "flip" the polarity to the positive or if need be just wrestle it to the ground which usually occurs in the form of a sequence of dream battles that can rage all night. If I feel something is that important to fight over I have to win it as if its life or death. I did that a couple of months ago, overcoming the "demon" exactly as dawn came..the feeling of peace was palpable. Anyhoo, I'd highly recommend not letting anger get a foothold in your life because its hell rooting it out.

I try not to get angry. It is a pointless emotion that causes nothing positive. But the one thing that gets me close is when stupid people make the wrong descions even when the right is so obvious. Politicians do this. I guess that really sickens me to think that these people have a say in how our country is run. Also when people let nasty emotions be their motivation for descion. Politicians do this as well.

I get angry at this ridiculous notion that I'm never supposed to be angry with anything. This idea that anger is a "bad" emotion makes me sick to my stomach. Saying "Anger is bad" is every bit as simplistic as saying "Taking a dump is bad." Emotions and actions are not in and of themselves good or bad. What's needed is a context. For instance, "Taking a dump on the floor right in front of the minister at a wedding" is probably bad. Whereas, "Taking a dump in the toilet cause my tummy hurt" is always good. The context decides the value. But there is an insidious trend in contemporary America to shy away from context when discussing emotion, and pretending that these hugely complex things can be explained away with blanket terms like "good" and "bad."

Jellric said:

I think it's worth noting here that some very wonderful things have sprung from an angry reaction to injustice. the American and French revolutions leap immediately to mind. the violent deposition of monarchies that were bleeding the people dry is a great thing, I think most of us would argue. But it's impossible for that to have happened without anger, and furious rage...and a good bit of healthy violence.

We've all heard it said that if you're not angry, then you're not paying attention. And I think that's true. No one is paying attention, which is apathy, the real genesis of evil, not the scapegoat anger. Apathy is why we have evil bastards like Bush in power today. It's precisely because we displayed a profound lack of anger that these theives are allowed to thrive.

I agree with you which, of course, is why I conditioned my statement. I probably should have cleaned that part up a bit more, but I knew someone would come along to do just that. Credit for the assist.

Yes, there is such a thing as righteous anger ( the story of Jesus overthrowing the money-changers tables comes to mind). Anger can provide plenty of productive energy if channeled properly. Having been priveleged to watch Michael Jordan play from row number twelve, I can tell you that anger was a motivator for him. Righteous anger at a player or fans doubting his abilities. He channeled that energy creatively- I think if you don't transform it or use it in some way, it backs up on you and is experienced as depression- not a good thing at all. It's like spiritual cancer.

Uncontrolled anger is like a fire that burns the one foolish enough to disrespect its power. Using MJ again as an example, I frequently witnessed his discipline turn entire teams' uncontrolled anger against themselves- forcing them to implode. Most of the time he had a twinkle in his eye.

St. Anger 'round my neck.....

Can't think of too many things that get me angry... usually something small and irritating will cause a quick burst of anger and a lot of swearing, but it doesn't happen so much anymore, and when it does, I quickly get over it...

I guess I just enjoy being more peaceful nowadays, sort of lets me enjoy life more....
Peace.
