and instead of a handshake i tend to give my friends hugs    well, only on special occasions....

and the european kissing thing is cool, you only kiss males if their family members, otehrwise you only kiss those of opposite sex

its insultingthough that a person cant even put in enough effort to give a little squeeze. its an insult because its like saying they arent worth the energy.
thus in business its always important to give a firm handshake

thats different because its a different culture or society or whatever and we tend to respect the traditions of other cultures. thus when westerners and asians do business, both parties do bow, and then proceed to do a handshake, in so satisfying both traditions and being respectful. and if one does not know the tradition of the others, its not insulting because the person did not know about it. another example would be when doing business with russians. there have been a few times when while doing the handshake the russian will pull over the westerer or whatever and give him a kiss on both cheeks (face cheeks...  ). westerner might be surprised and not kiss back, but it doesnt matter since he didnt know and its not his culture.

but, if two people from the same society and culture who have both been taught to give a proper firm handshake and one still refuses to give a proper handshake it is then disrespectful.
