overly strong handshakes

what is the deal? I understand that limp wristed handshakes are rather uneasy and downright ghey.... but what is with these guys that feel the need to crush your hand? I am a piano player, so my hand strength is above average and I could pretty much do the same to anyones hand.... but these guys get the drop on you when you are going for the average firm grasp.
I think this says a lot about your personality too... especially if you are just being introduced out of formality... like the date of some girl you had a class with 5 years ago.

i do the same thing as often as i can.
it shows charachter. i would think that a strong handshake from someone would mean they have strong character. i was taught this as a child and have been like it ever since.
i dont overly crush/squezze anyones hand tho, just enough ta...u know, let them know i AM there

that's usually true, sometimes they just don't know their own strength though. what's worse is the pussy grip - people who can't even muster a firm handshake I usually discount as pussies right away. Or I usually tell them their handshake sucks.

haha,
I'm mister pussy grip. I just don't see the point in crushing another dude's hand. What am I trying to prove? I'm just saying hi.

it's cool - it's usually not really important, unless your employer is mr pussy grip - then there might be a problem.

I've been told by multiple people that I have a strong handshake...and I don't see anything unusually strong about it...because I just give em a nice firm one...so I've concluded some people are just stronger than others and underestimate their strength. Either that or some people are just weak and overestimate other people's strength.
Haha. Either way, if it's a guy, I squeeze the hell out of it, it's kinda like an "are you manly?" thing...don't ask..<shrug>....but more so it just feels good to exert your strength..well, to me.

Always, always, always go with the two-handed handshake.
it makes people uncomfortable.

I know someone who does the 2 handed shake. A very energetic & nice person. It's a sign of welcoming and enthusiasm, I believe, rather than anything uncomfortable. That is, when you do it with a smile & energy...otherwise..yeah

I met this russian kid and the grabbed my hand like a fuckin vice grip. I'm all for a firm handshake but this was ridiculous like he was trying to crush my hand on purpose. I said somethin about it to these other people that knew him and they said that's just they way they do things over there, so I dunno.

see, this is the only instance where I think it is justified. Any other time, it just reveals you as a very scared, little person.... like a cat that fluffs up its fur to seem bigger.

In my experience it's the people that have a position in life or a job title that swells their head, causing them to feel the need to squeeze your hand into a pancake because they think they're better than you. Said people include but are not limited to: Police, Lawyers, CEO's, and those taller than me (6' 1"+).

It's an ego thing. Every other explanation is bullshit. If you are at peace with yourself you don't need to fucking crush someone's hand.

Or, the person just likes giving firm handshakes. Or, the person doesn't realize they are giving a very firm one. Or maybe you have frail and tiny woman hands? (that was a joke!)
Jumping to judgmental conclusions as you just did isn't a good thing..won't get you too far, in my opinion.

Yeah I like a nice firm shake. I hate it when they grip too loose. Whenever I get a hand crusher though, I purposely increase my shake by a power of 10. It's fuckin rude.
