Dudes who obsess over sports.

I think the biggest thing that makes me unable to relate to a lot of people is my blatant uninterest in sports. All of my roomates will constantly watch football, baseball, basketball and know all the stats about all the players, who is the best team, who should win what games, and etc. I think it is just so uninteresting and pointless unless you actually play the sport yourself.

None of my roomates are good enough at any sports to actually play on a team or anything so why the hell are they so obsessed with sports players? They will never be out there playing football on the NFL or in any other sport's equivalent organization. So why do they obsess over sports so much?

I think watching sports are very similar to video games, in that there is really no point to it, and it will do nothing for you in the end except maybe relieve a little boredom. Knowing stats about all the players is exceedingly pointless and i view it very much as teh opiate of teh masses.

Even right now I can hear them in the other room watching some basketball game on TV, one asking the other "Whats the score now?" Theres just something about having unathletic people be so obsessed with sports they very rarely play, and when they do play them they suck, that pisses me right off dammit. I just want them to stop being so ignorant I guess, put there effort into something that may at some point in time be useful in their lives?

the job of celebrities is to live interesting lives so we don't have to. It keeps the working class doing what they're doing, they just read People magazine to see what all the famous people are doing and they feel that their life is more interesting by proxy.

I don't know if that applies to sports stars.... people that obsess about sports dont piss me off, but I really dont understand them, and they bore me quickly.

i think if i ever watched sports on tv i'd instantly go blind from boredom

Well if the world was full of people who think like me, thered probably be no celebrities because there would be no demand for them. Well actually I think there would be musical celebrities because that is one thing I enjoy. But their level of fame would be much lower and people would know them more by the music they create then just by their faces.

Well actually if the world was full of people who think like me they probably wouldnt be very musically talented because im not either. That would suck.


Now I will give some video games credit for requiring interactivity, I used to play games like counterstrike and that was pretty fun back in its day.


And about the "Celebrity Worship Syndrome" I think there are a lot of undiagnosed cases of that in the world today and people are enjoying their disease. I think there are a lot of undiagnosed cases of "Sports Worship Syndrome" out there too.

The only sport which is ok to like is Hockey.. Or at least that's what it's like here, its sort of a part of our culture.. I just find it's exciting to watch and root for you home team.. Especially when there kicking ass like the Leafs this season.. I'm far from fanatical but here every family wacthes hockey night in Canada and drinks beer.. I know what you mean though some people are so into it it's rediculous..

They spend like 1/3 of their time talking about celebrities on national news, and news channels.

For some reason to me that just seems fucked up.

It's being witness to the skills of some of these athletes which is the attraction. It's a show, kinda like a circus. Do you think everyone who goes to a circus shouldn't go because they are not very good trapeze artists themselves? If you could do these things yoursefl, why would you watch them?

Personally, I think any man who doesn't like any sport is a bit funny!

Notice I put any in italics? Fishing/Rock Climbing/Surfing etc counts, Hopscotch/Dancing/Bingo does not - no matter how competitive.

FleshOfGods: Yes I do watch TV. Mostly the comedy channel, history channel, food channel, and the shows on MTV like wild boys and viva la bam. Whats your point?

Jackal: It is impossible to compare people who go to the circus with people who are obsessed with sports. People dont obsess over the circus in any way comparable to how many people obsess over televised sports. I would agree that someone who has not found any sport they enjoy would have to be quite a sheltered individual.
