then why do you always get into a hissyfit whenever I state my own personal opinion (trance = cheese, trance = formula)?

Dig it, psytrance is where it's AT - Infected Mushroom and Hallucinogen are key. Fuck cheese trance/most other kinds of trance - that stuff IS wack. But some good PSY or PSY/Dub/ambient like Shpongle, Doof, Youth, Ott.
Definately as complex/musical/emotional as any good rock music. Repitition is key in both types of music and is not a bad thing.
Variation on themes yo!
Don't forget how much truly cheesy and repetitive (in the bad way) rock there is. Just as bad as cheese trance man. Good music is good music no matter how it's made.

probably because he likes that music and can recognize the intricacies that differ between artists of the genre, and claiming that a type of music is "generic" and "formulated" is pretty insulting.. I dont have the same taste in music as 40, but i dont try to tell him that what he listens to is crap. In all seriousness, its awesome your broadening your musical horizens Wrestler, only good things can come of it.

geez, this is like telling a bunch of Britney Spears fans that pop music blows. I guess I should hold back next time - ya'll are a sensitive lot.
wrestler asked for suggestions, and I offered my suggestions of what I think is good and what is not good in electronic music (as a long-time fan I think I am qualified to give such recommendations). Have you never put out criticism of a type of music, type of food, type of car, type of clothing, type of drug, type of movie, type of car, type of computer, type of politic, type of sport, etc.? Of course you have - we all have. So, why cant I offer my opinion on trance without people being crybabies? If there is disagreement, lets actually discuss why.
I can recogize the intricacies of the trance genre just fine, and I can also recognize why trance/progressive house is often regarded as the "pop" of electronic music.

thank you for your suggestions....
people have different tastes...what kind of response would you expect when telling a bunch of britney spears fans that pop music blows? they are fans of that music you think blows, so yea, they might get a little defensive/offended by your statement...i dont think anyone is crying about your opinion, rather the way you throw it out there. you dont like trance, thats fine...no need to bash it though....

I fail to see how having higher standards for music equates to being jaded. Explain yourself.

so, not being interested in a particular subgenre of music is self-limiting, even if I am quite familiar with it and have been since the evolution of trance from the German techno scene?
I'm sure you're not into scat (I think), does that mean you're limiting yourself? um, no. Just means you know what you like and dont like.
sorry, I am not jaded - you seemed to have left out a large portion of what I said - I explained that I am interested in music that is more complex and less mainstream than trance. This is being in tune with one's taste, not being jaded. Yes, I have been around awhile and I have learned what is good and what is disposable after time. And once again, I'm interested in shifting the discussion from me to why I think trance is is the pop of electronic music - but something tells me you're more interested in flaming and smileys than an actual discussion about music. If so, peace the fuck out man.

i'd rather partake in enjoying music for what I may concieve it to be, and form my own opinions, lest they not be as biased, jaded & tainted as yours. so rather than "discuss" about what is better than who is better than what, ill just leave it at that,
& add a gremlin here:
& one here:
and add a pic here:

peace out mang.
