I play guitar too and have a similar problem, except my fretting is ok but i tend to strum the strings way too hard. It's a bad habit i picked up from trying to teach myself to play metal. As a few people have already mentioned, it may look a lot cooler to thrash away up on stage, but by focusing on control and technique rather than force i can achieve so much more, so much easier!

The objective is to focus on control and technique to the point where it is effortless and does not require conscious thought to maintain, and then to thrash away on stage. :wink:
