Hey Bio; I have Cordyceps JUST beginning to colonize mealworms. . .the key was killing them first, apparantly. All living worms never got infected, only dead ones. No fruiting yet, but still hoping! Good luck with the grasshoppers!

as im feeding crickets, grasshoppers, and roaches to my tarantulas i have enough insects to experiment with....the grasshoppers are non-sterile and inoculated with a few mycelium-pieces...my liquid culture is not ready yet...i wish you good luck too with your experiments....

So let me get this straight.... you are using grasshoppers as a substrate?
Very interesting

Doesn't mycelium like chitin (the outer layer of an insect)? I remember reading that somewhere. Can you elaborate on this project.

I have never seen a cordyceps project, any updates?

Peace

welll....the grasshoppers are not colonized yet...last year i did inoculate roaches with cordyceps....and they have a lot of chitine....i put them in boiling water to killem...then sterilized in a jar and inoculated...after 1 week they were fully colonized...then i cased them and tis was the keypoint...casing was shit...mycelium died

i could be wrong, but i dont think that cordyceps like to be cased. if i remember, they grow spores out of the spaces in the exoskeletal shell. these spores are on pressurized stalks and the spores are shot away from the dead insect. i think that the life cycle of this fungal organism is short, and needs open air.
