Assuming that you are going to innoculate the little buggers, this could be very interesting. I gues you've already figured that roaches have been around for millions of years and have built resistances to nearly everything, including roach spray and poisons.

Since mushrooms do tend to "suck up" whatever they are growing on, are you trying to somehow give them this natural "invulnerabity" to ward off contams and the like to prolong fruiting?

However, like I mentioned, these roaches may have eaten poison themselves and are immune, thus passing it on to the fungus and getting ppl sick inadvertanly.

Good luck

Those are some sick fuckin roaches. But the intent behind this experiment is the fact that cordyceps will only fruit on an insect (caterpillar) right?

pretty weird...

but theris no chance of fruiting this fungus exept the way he likes it most ....on buried(cased) insects....the chinese take silk-caterpillars....also this insects have been breeded to feed reptiles...so they are garanteed free of any shit like the roaches in the kitchen....

the mycelium covered them in 4 days!!!!!...now i let it grow thru and then case them....

lookin forward to make a tea out of this crazy cannibal fungus....heh.

BiO.

BTW...im a cannibal toooo.....i love sushi.sashimi.maki

Well done! it really looks like it might work! Interesting, but I'm not sure i'd feel good eating something that grew on a dead cockroach!

Did you isolate the culture from the wild?

Does anyone know any literature/refs on the subject of growing cordyceps on buried inoculated insects?

I believe that most cordyceps used for medicinal purposes is grown on a completely different substrate. If you have some mycelium on agar I would be interested in trading.

they do the cultures in huge fermenters and extract then the substance....or in china they bury inoculated silk-caterpillars to gro them....mycelial mass we have enough...iwant to fruit them ....to see this crazy fungi...
