For me it's about 20% logic and 80% emotion.

I am quite familiar with that quote, but I believe that you are misunderstanding me. There are people of all belief systems who use emotion to guide their thoughts. A hardcore Rightist might be overly emotionally obsessed with nationalism, but a logical Rightist might preach the benefits of the free market. A hardcore Leftist might yearn for economic equality and utopia, but a logical Leftist might examine the faults of capitalism.

Well, I see your point. Mine was more of how your emotions change with time, and thus your beliefs.

Logic and emotion are intertwined im my estimation.

If we did not come with tear ducts or graying hair, and operated our life as a Vulcan, I could undoubtedly say that logic plays a primary role in a belief system.

I don't know if I'd put it so much in terms of logic vs. emotion. For me it's more like 75% pragmatism, 25% principles. Back in my libertarian days, it was pretty much the opposite.

a very wise teacher once told me that 99% of politics is emotional manipulation.

ever since then, I have striven (though not always successfully) to be more logical and ignore appeals to emotion.

Everyone is emotionally invested in their choice of political ideologies, if they try to tell you otherwise they are full of shit. It seems that some people are more emotional about politics than others but I think its just that some control their emotions better.

Do you ever get that feeling when someone disagrees with a core belief -not only disagrees with it, but profanes that very belief by marginalizing it and not even considering it- where you get a little flustered and its almost like an adrenaline rush..a fight-or-flight response? Haha, i love politics.

i tend to let my feelings get me worked up then try to verify my views with logic. i couldn't really give percentages.
