Ultimately I feel one must transcend even that attachment to be truly free.

By the way, do you make up all the quotes you quote, they are all Unknown after all?

"What is in us that turns a deaf ear to the cries of human suffering?"

"Belief is a beautiful armor
But makes for the heaviest sword"
- John Mayer

Making the noise "penicillin" is no substitute for actually taking penicillin.

"This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it, or their revolutionary right to dismember or overthrow it." -Abraham Lincoln

You forgot Mr. Boch.

"A warrior is a hunter. He calculates everything. That's control. Once his calculations are over, he acts. He lets go. That's abandon. A warrior is not a leaf at the mercy of the wind. No one can push him; no one can make him do things against himself or against his better judgment. A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda

Freedom is just the other side of control. When you are free, you control your surroundings when your surroundings are free you are the one being controlled. It's just the centre of power that's changing. I think it is not a question of freedom, but a question what you do with your freedom. If you open up to the godliness within, you'll be able to spread whatever is most important in this life: love. If you remain closed, coiled up into the vortex we call personality/ego/individuality, this bigger power will remain outside. You gain a self, you loose the world...
Damn, I sound like a hippy.
