Does anyone else really dig this guy? I love his artwork it is just so damn trippy! I don't think he took hallucinogens for inspiration either.

Most people would be surprised to find out that all of their favorite surrealist painters never took drugs. Unless you count absinthe. They were just very creative people with a strong ability of vision. Escher is a very, VERY good artist.

You might also find that you like the works of:

Because in this case it's most logical not to. Admittedly it can lubricate the creativity, but they're not going to hallucinate and have their ideas just given to them freely, they still need to work and think to develop it and flesh it out. An artist that paints what they're hallucinating has a much different sort of process to work through, IMO. It's impressive when an artist does not need hallucinogens to producs this sort of vivid, psychedellically interesting art.

I think Thompson gave him some synthetic psilo one time and they ended up spray painting the sides of yahts.

I've just checked out Alex Grey on the Google image search and there are at least a couple of artworks that I've been really interested in but didn't know who they were by. Namely 'Oversoul' and 'Avalokitesvara' Thanks for posting :smile:

I'd love to be able to get some posters by Alex Grey to put on my bedroom wall but all the ones I can find for sale are small blotter prints. Can anyone help here? I will search for the other artists mentioned in this post as well once I get the chance :smile:

The reason why Escher was able to create art like he did was because he was also a mathematician as well. I have a book that shows how he drew all these crazy grids to create his illusions and morphed planes.

Escher is fucking amazing!

The thing that always gets me is that they are all prints. They are either carved into wood or stone, then printed with ink. I couldn't draw something that good, let alone carve it into stone.
