Can Somebody Recommend Me a Good Conservative Book?

I'm going to visit my cousin this Christmas and the only decent clue I have about what to get him is that he is a big time republican who likes Rush Limbaugh and Anne Coulter. So I'm trying to find him a conservative/libertarian book won't make him lose any more brain cells that might help steer him away from the talk-radio shenanigans. And one that he will actually read.

I mostly just read National Review in my more conservative days, and don't remember many of the whole books I read. Anybody know of some good conservative books that are more intelligent and less liberal trashing? I'm thinking maybe like P.J. O'Rourke or something.

If I can't find anything maybe I'll just give him the Anti-Chomsky Reader.

i'd recommend anything by Milton Friedman - certainly an interesting and stimulating read.

although i'm of the mind that people should read (intelligent) viewpoints that go against their current notions (hence me reading Milton Friedman), so I'd say get your conservative cousin something along the lines of 'ParEcon' to shake up his belief-system.

Well, one reason why I reccomended Pat Buchanon is because he's one of the biggest critics of the Right from the Right.  I figure it'd be interesting for some dittohead talk radio listener hearing arguments against interventionism, nation-building, and the neoconservative agenda coming from a fellow conservative.  I think it'd be much more disarming for him than hearing the same arguments from Chomsky.  I think this book cover says it all:

I disagree. I have listened and read both. By far Micheal Savage, rips apart Bush and the Right more than any other conservative.

He refers to Rush as Hush, rips on Hannity, slams Neo Cons as "Bushbots".

Granted he is a talk show host, however, a very unconventional, no bull shit sugar coating type.

He has a PHD from Berkley and several Master degrees.

I do not agree with allot he says, however he has a talent of shinning a spotlight on issues that infuriate both Left and Right

This was given in the old testament, to an agrarian society.....it has no bearing because of the new covenant

"Stewardship" and "ownership" are quite different concepts. The latter is a right. The former is a responsibility. Here's the quote I was referring to:

"The land shall not be sold forever; for the land is Mine; for ye are strangers and sojourners with Me." -- Leviticus XXV

I heartily second Ancalagon's recommendation of "Silent America" by Bill Whittle. Some of the best writing ever.

Anything by PJ O'Rourke would be good, too. "Parliament of Whores" remains one of my favorites but they're all good.

Pat Buchanen is against gay marriage and the 'homosexual agenda!' and in the past has said alot of borderline racist stuff. Just because he criticizes Bush doesn't make him any less reactionary.

Don't get me wrong. By no means am I putting him up on a pedestal. I just find it interesting to hear his perspective on the modern Right. He's the last great articulate voice of paleoconservatism.
