Bizarre reaction to ganja... What could have happened?

My roommate, girlfriend, and I were all sitting around last night, when I get a call from my friend. He asks if he can stay the night, because he needs to catch a train near my apartment in the morning. I say, yeah sure come on over.

He (we'll call him Fred) gets here, and shortly after, we begin to smoke some marijuana. It's now 30 minutes later, and Fred has smoken a good deal of pretty strong marijuana, but no more than the rest of us. He tells us he would like to go up to the roof, and starts on his way. My roommate was going to join him in about 5 minutes. Just as my roommate is getting up to join him, we hear Fred shrieking outside.

My roommate and I burst out through the backdoor and onto the stairwell. My stairwell that leads up to to roof ends on my floor, and another stairway connects to the ground floor. Where the stairwell to the roof ends on my floor, there is open space under the stairs. We find Fred on the ground, behind the stairs, with his head wedged in between the floor and the underside of the first step. He's howling and screaming in Romanian and thrashing all over the place. Perplexed and horrified, we try to figure out what the hell is going on.

We soon realize he's having a bad trip. My roommate finds his headlamp (damn things come in handy) and my girlfriend explains to my now frightened upstairs neighbors that no one is being skinned in the house tonight. I quickly told her to simply tell them he was having a bad night terror and that everything is going to be fine. My roommate and I continue to try and calm him. He was literally screaming at the top of his lungs for about 3 minutes now (a long fucking time when you're tripping a little too, and you live in a crowded urban city).

He's still shouting in Romanian, and neither one of us can understand him. He continues to scream, and we can see him with the headlamp now: his head is decently wedged in there, but it's an easy fix. He's making it a lot worse than it really is, and must have been going through hell. I finally am able to get him to speak in English, and he's slowly calming down. He starts to regaining consciousness, and I get him to roll onto his right shoulder, and turn his head parallel to the ground. My roommate slides him out and we get him into the apartment.

The guy completely trips his balls off the rest of the night. We try to get him in the shower, and this seems to calm him down at first. Soon, however, he begins to feel very horny. He's trying to hump my roommate and I as he begins to lose control of his legs. We get him lowered as best we can, but he's thrashing around and hits his head lightly on the bathtub.

We get him out and he begins to calm again. He declare's he's fine and walks towards the office, falling through the doorway much like a tree with no limbs. We make sure he's ok and get him onto our bean bag. At this point my girlfriend is beginning to get extremely paranoid, and I don't blame her; we're making a lot of noise. I try to talk her down and tell her to put away anything illegal. I explain to her that they can't search our apartment, and everything will be ok as she starts in on her mission.

Fred ends up puking all over himself and the bean bag, on his back with his mouth wide-open sloshing around a large pool of vomit. My roommate wrestles him on to his side, and he begins to surge forth tide after tide of cilantro spotted bile. He declares he has seen god and that he is Jesus Christ. He asks that we baptise him, and we willingly agree.

After another eventful shower, he begins to regain himself more and more. It has now been about an hour since the whole episode began. He lied down on the bean bag and came in and out of his hallucinations, still convinced he was either Jesus or some kind of a prophet. Every once in a while, he bursts into tears. Whenever he comes back into consciousness, he insists he's having an amazing trip. He says he's loving it. We keep trying to explain to him that he's not showing it. His last words before he falls asleep are, "Guys, I think I might be schizophrenic."

Fred awakes this morning refreshed. After staying up all night and watching him, neither of us can say the same. My roommate takes him to the train station, and gets home a few minutes later. He reveals that Fred still may think he's Jesus Christ.

So what the fuck happened here? I've only come up with a few possible causes:

- His first time ecstacy trip two weeks prior (he did get a little weird then. Could this some how make him very sensitive to marijuana?

- Strong marijuana, and a light user.

- Over exhaustion from a recent long distance bike ride (which he actually had to visit the doctor for).

- Concussion: This wouldn't explain the beginning of his trip, but it might account for some of the later parts. He did knock his head a few times (his pupils looked fine in the morning).

- God deemed my friend worthy of being his resurrected son, and was simply putting him through the hazing ritual.

Ideas?
