Sorry for the two page late reply -- would you care to elucidate what the final outcome would look like (so there's no confusion)? Another thread might be more appropriate.

Communism is a classless society in which the means of production are owned by everyone in common(not by the state, as is the case with socialism). Work would be done not by being an employee for a company doing one type of work, as is the case under capitalism, but rather one could do several types of work through voluntary association. Marx believed that capitalism alienated the worker from his labor because the capitalists controlled the production. Under communism, he believed, people would be able to reach their "full human potential" by applying their many skills to many different tasks and recieving the full product of their labor.

Why would this not be at least as vulnerable to Mises' criticisms as pure socialism?

Sorry, I didn't have time to read through it. Can you give me the gist of it? In any case, I always thought of socialism in terms of a command economy, which is something that would not exist in pure communism.

Can you elaborate further on how resources are allocated in the final stage of communism?

he wants to know about theoretical communism, which is still a prevalent idea, so it is not moot.

Well, from my interpretation of it, I think it would simply be a free market except with a different set of property rights. Others, particularly in the anarcho-communist school of thought, believe that communism would entail a gift economy. Marx himself didn't actually go into much detail describing what the final stage of communism would look like. To him, it would simply be the natural state of affairs that would occur once we had been been deprogrammed of our capitalist values and norms.

moot Audio pronunciation of "moot" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (mt)
n.

1. Law. A hypothetical case argued by law students as an exercise.
2. An ancient English meeting, especially a representative meeting of the freemen of a shire.

Moot is in fact all it is.

i guess i see what you mean to an extent, youre saying its a hypothetical idea with hypothetical details and im saying the idea of the idea is not hypothetical and so its details are not just hypothetical but factual components.

rogue_pixie, I suggest you re-read the forum rules before making your next post here. Flaming isn't allowed.

Calling someone a "nitwit" is flaming. So is stating your pronouncements are "beyond your comprehension". So is "You're like fucking vultures," and "you aren't very bright".

But since I've just returned from a very nice meal topped with an especially fine Dominican cigar and a snifter of top notch extra old Dominican rum (almost cognac-like in its essence) I'll bundle them all together as a single offense.

You get one warning. This is that warning.

That's what I gathered as well. He was pretty specific about the "dictatorship of the proletariat". But, when it came to the nice fluffy aftermath where the dictatorship melted away and everything just seemed to work out magically, he was kind of sparse on the nitty gritty details.
