Vermiculite
    #483299 -

Hello everyone. I have a question on using vermiculite. Okay, now the directions I am using to grow my shooms says that I must use "course" vermiculite. Alright. So, I went Wal-Mart and this is what they had...

Is this going to work or no?

Also, I have a question about the canning jars. These are the only jars walmart had, so I picked them up for the hell of it. They are 18 OZ. BTW, they are air tight. Thanks alot for the help everyone, I really appreciate it!

Hi,
I'm not quite sure what "Replacement Vermiculite" is, can you post a pic of the acutally verm? If it looks like brown grains of salt but are soft to the touch, and have a few tiny "crystals" floating around. Then its probablly vermiculite and it should work fine.

As for you jar. No, it won't work. The lip on the jar narrows inwards. You can use any jar, it just has to be straight or "wide mouthed" at the opening. An easy way to tell if a jar will work is, picture yourself freezing the jar with ice.

If you were to turn the jar upside down, is the ice able to slide right out without getting caught up on anything?

If the ice can slide out, you're fine. Why I used the analogy of ice instead of an acutal cake is beyond me:) It's been a long day at work!

Hope that helps
Lana

Those jars can be used for making casings. You'll have to figure a way around their being airtight. Filter disks?
