free cigarettes

theres this circle k near my house that i frequent. there this really cool guy that works there, everytime i stop by i end up smokeing a few cigs with him and bullshit for a while....he works the graveyard shift and it gets so slow im sure he like a little company now and then. he told me that if i hooked him up with some food from burger king, where i work, hed give me free cigs.

so last night i brought him some food, and sure enough....a free pack. then tonight i stopped in to get a refill, and he gave me another pack for free. im never gonna quit now that i got a free cig hook up :smirk:

When I worked at a fast food joint, I took a lot of food. 90% of that food was just product that was made for customers in advance but just never got sold by the end of the night. When I took out the trash at the end of the night, I would put the extra food in a separate trash bag and then hide it outside. I would then pick it up on my way out that night.

One of the most heartbreaking things about working in the food industry is seeing perfectly good food being wasted. You gotta find a way to salvage it if you can.

exactly...theres this homeless guy that comes around once in a while. hes kinda scared to come by anymore cuz the general manager is a real bitch and doesnt want "his kind" hanging around the store...but when he does venture onto our property and im there, i hook him up with a sack full of goodies that would normaly be thrown away and used as a tax write off.

Amen! I used to work at Starbucks, and their food is only allowed to be out for a day or two before being tossed. So every other day we would just toss out entire garbage bags full of perfectly good pastries, sandwiches, drinks, salads, cookies, and on and on. I just couldn't fathom how they could do that when there were and still are so many hungry people around the state and world. So I just took some every night.

Of course the manager found out, and she was a real by-the-book prude bitch, so she wouldn't allow us to take the food. Eventually I just quit, mainly because of the boss.

I never realized how much food was wasted each day until I worked there.

im not really bragging that i got a free cig hook up....my intentions of this post was to show what can happen when one takes the time to interact with people, even if its just a 5 minute bullshit conversation with a cashier at a convenience store. my smoking is not the issue here, i would have bought them anyway.....it was a nice thing for him to do for a complete stranger.

Have you ever worked in the meat department of a grocery store?  It makes me so fucking sick.  The one I worked at threw away a huge trash can full of perfectly edible meat....DAILY.  We would cook up some of it occasionally, but it mostly all went to waste.  I asked why they couldn't get that meat from there to the mouths of starving people.  They said "because if one of those people were to get sick, they could sue us".  I says "Why can't we just get them to sign a waver??".  I forget what the response to that was. 

I don't want to think about it anymore.  I'm getting pissed.  :sad:
