Hurricane Katrina and race

Whenever something like this happens and black people suffer, inevitably the topic of race is going to come up. We have seen everything from Kanye West (a black rapper) saying that George Bush doesn't care about black people to black people looting in the streets.

What are your opinions on the whole topic of race and how it relates to this tragedy?

Do you mean the blacks looting?

I think it's ignorant to pretend certain groups of people don't have predominant traits. Every individual needs to be judged according to his own actions but it is no surprise to me that a huge area of low income blacks devolved into a lawless cesspool. I don't believe blacks are genetically predisposed to violence, rather I think it is cultural.

I wouln't say it is "cultural" as such, probably more social in this case. Don't forget there must be causes for black people to be more predisposed to such actions (it can't be their genes or something like than...), if of course one dares make the generalization that black people are more violent than white people.

No, I am not talking about just that. I am talking about all of the race related things that have been on the news. What do you think of the local, state, and federal government's reactions and was it related to race for example? What do you think of all of the race related stuff in this whole situation?

I'm guessing the delay in rescuing was a result of massive discombobulation rather than racism. I mean where does one start rescuing a whole city?

hmmm lets see, well a few hundred years ago the settlers in the USA used black people as slaves. It wasn't until only recently that black people started to be treated like human beings (well barely like humans). How do you expect these people to so easily integrate into a society which kept them as slaves and non-humans? And you expect it to happen quick. I'd say Black people have done an amazing job (look at how the natives have put up with white oppression).

Racism is fucking stupid, plain and simple. The issue has never been about race, its a class issue. It always has, just because the majority of black people are in the lower class because of their past, dosen't mean they are less deserving of aid and help.

They are where they are because of the choices they/their parents have made. Anything is possible if you really want it, and I think alot of the people there are just looking for handouts/welfare (I chose to have kids when I was 15 and not finish school, now its the governments responsibility to take care of me).

Also with the shooting at the helicopters. Why does this not come as a shock to me? Are they just too busy being awsome with their gangs...too hardcore for help? Oh but wait...I forgot, we're fucked without help. Now lets complain about how theyre not helping enough while we shoot at them/roit/loot/go ape shit/kill/rape randomly until we decide to stop, then accept help....then complain some more about how its not enough help.

To hell with the National Guard. This wasn't some earthquake that just struck out of the blue and caught everyone unprepared. The people who were rich enough to drive themselves out of harms way had a 48 hour head start on the storm and got the hell out in plenty of time. Most of those who remained didn't do so of their own free will, they got left behind and had to fend for themselves. Nobody was willing to fly, bus, truck or sail them out beforehand, but handing them a band-aid once they're neck-deep in filthy water is oh-so-fucking-noble.

No surprise that the majority of unfortunates are black either. All that water has disolved the surface layer. What is being shown on the news right now is what America really looks like without her makeup and fancy attire, and the bitch is no less ugly now than she was 200 years ago.

Yes, you have to be "rich" to afford a car and a tank or two of gasoline.. Last time I checked all you need for that is a job.

Even the poor should have stuck their thumbs out, they'd have been given rides by your "rich".

Yeah right. You know half those millionaires driving their Mercedes or their Porches up north wouldn't want "nigger" on their upholstery.

It is a fucking travesty that every damn bus withing 50 miles wasn't mobilized to ship out those without vehicles. We could have pretty much had that entire city cleared out.
