THE KINKY KATRINA SPEND SPREE

By GEOFF EARLE February 14, 2006 -- WASHINGTON ? Sex toys, Swedish massages, tattoos, jewelry ? that's what was purchased with Katrina emergency relief aid, according to shocking audits released yesterday.

Federal Emergency Management Agency officials wasted millions in taxpayer dollars and even put up Hurricane Katrina evacuees in luxury hotels ? including a New York hotel that billed the feds $428 per night, federal investigators revealed.

The probers also found widespread abuse of $2,000 debit cards that FEMA provided to evacuees.

Disaster victims were supposed to use the vouchers for emergency...

This is one of the many problems with wealth redistribution. These people could spend the money on whatever they wanted because they "knew" that the US Government, either for some minority pandering or to 'do the right thing', would never let anyone starve or really go without. So why not just blow the money, they didn't pay anything into the tax system that funded it and it's a bottomless pit of money.

It is sad indeed. But I'd like to see the statistics on what percentage of them spent their relief money in this way. I still have yet to see whether these people are the exception or the rule.

Are you really a taxpayer if you get all of the money withheld from you back at the end of the year? What if your welfare check is taxed, is that even YOUR money they are taking?

Anyone who gets or has ever gotten a paycheck is a level of taxpayer.

What you think the goverment does with your money they took for that year? It isnt sittin under uncle sams mattress. Uncle sam is putting Your money to work for him for a year, then if u are eligible to get some back, u do.

Withholding cheats you out of interest on your earnings.

I don't think they tax welfare. But the answer is NO, it wouldn't be your money they were taking back.

I remember when I used to work for the state. It kind of confused me to see them tax my paycheck. I mean, how does the government tax itself? Of course, technically it's the federal government taxing the state government.
